Where does your idle sit now once the engine is warmed up? Is it higher thar before?

Nope I don't believe so....sits at a steady 1k RPMS. I haven't noticed any problems with surging and I idled for a while at applebee's and Midnight Run.

1K RPM? OK, that is pretty high. Most of us see 750 to 850 RPM. 950 to 1k would be great.

i think the flash is in some dealers hands...

as to the idle.... it is not elevated... mine idles the same as before... but smooth... i will sometimes take the HIT as it idles down... but after that it is fine..

just did 2 tanks of gas.... well i hate to leave you hanging, but i am back to premix...

will know more tue...

note the fuel stragity over 75 mph is much changed...

Do we have a copy of the new flash yet? I'd like to take in the dealer but it's like pulling teeth to get things done with them.

I pulled my service report from my records, and it does not have all the information that the copy the dealership had. It does state that the PCM was reflashed. That is all I have, sorry.

How many hours did the Dealership bill for the flash? The last time I got one it was .3 hours. If us out of warranty people have to pay for a flash .3 hrs is still not going to be that much.

It shows that they billed .5 hours. Real mental magicians they are here, so that is not something to judge time by. It has taken them 2 hours to change the oil before, and they overfilled it.

quoting myself again from earlier in this thread. this above is how the flash files were before the new one. 2004s are N3Z files and 2005s are N3K files. As of right now there has been no change to the 2005 files. Jeff (MM) is correct- the S/T was out since the first or 2nd. it came with WDS/IDS level 43.8. the WDS page was slow to update. But the dealerships(which is most now) that have switched to the new IDS system would have had it from the 1st it seems.

in other news this will be a recall. They are going to want everyone at this level. So wait a little bit and the docs will come out for whether this effects the 2005 cars as well as the 2004s. if you are watchign the rumours elsewhere on the net- dont believe the one about the load of engines. not true.

My a/c blower fan in the car would randomly not come on whether the a/c was turned on or not and then mysteriously the fan would just start blowing again. I had my oil changed this morning, told them about my problem with the blower fan and my 8 came back with the new flash. It was listed on my invoice as-

I had not read this thread prior to going to the dealer, so I didn't know what the flash was for. I will report back on my 8's new flashed driveability this evening. Oh, and my car is an '04 MT with build date of 12-03. I also have had the recall work done

talked to my tech today... the flash should be covered under the emissions warranty....

think it is 8 to 80k..... and if you have a good relation with the dealer you will have no problems...

and it is .3 hours if not ~25 bucks. well worth it...

Interesting.

The service writers I delt with back home always maintained that flashes were not only free, but required every time the car went in for any service, ever and forever.
That is why I pulled my DLC wiring - to prevent from ever "accidentally" receiving "R".

The guy I've started dealing with here in Phoenix seems to have the same attitude.

I've been out of the loop regarding flashes. Can someone explain to me the dreaded "R"? From what I hear, it changes the AFR or something? Wouldn't that mean you just have to retune the maps for the those of us who are FI?

Hmmm...I've got the Racing Beat oil pump mod & have fuel & timing totally controlled by the XEDE, so I wonder what this flash would do.

it will increase you mop injecton at cruise throtlle... ~ 70 to 75 mph... if your xede is an interceptor type you are fine...

this flash does some interesting things at 76 mph+ not bad, just interesting...

jeff intereseting thing- my dealer wants to alwayts flash everyone BECAUSE i gave them a hard time when they wouldnt Do the original MSP04 M flash. now im going to be th eone saying DONT flash me this time.

also since this started last year with the failures and changing the mop profile with the "california " flash etc i have had a conversation with the state attorney general's office. they are of the opinion that using a flash to change the way the car operates is the same as changing a part or using a wrench or screwdriver to change it.

That is the service center shhould inform the owner about what htey are goign to to do BEFORE its done and also explain the changes and they will do to your car. i believe every state has a law like this. itll be interesting to see if the dealer can actually get an explanation for me. At least when it becomes a recall there will be SOME information about the change

I'm staying away from flashes. My car drives fine, plus my MPG right now has been the highest it's ever reached. 20 mpg combined (50/50 highway city)

I'll buy that for a dollar!

such as? I don't have access to a service tech right now that will let me in on what is going on with these new flashes, and just want to know from those that do.

I just made a short road trip this past weekend, only 550 miles round trip, and I averaged about 23.5 MPG, with a passenger, and a full trunk. I am taking another one tomorrow, about 700 miles, with only a passenger, so maybe it will be a little better. And almost all of these two trips are 75+ MPH. Thus the reason I want to know what "interesting things over 76 MPH " are.

comes out of closed loop. i think that is right...

afr drops out of trying to run stoci to ~ mid to high 13s... cat temp drops from ~ 1630 to 1550. never noticed that before this flash...

does it at anything about 75 mph... takes about 45 seconds of cruising at that speed for it to start....

did i mention the idle is much better.

I have almost 50k mi on my '04 6spd and was also expected to burn considerably more oil.

I have been averaging about a quart every 2,500mi.

I don't know how much oil I will be using now, but I had been using just over a quart every 2000 miles. Which was more than it used to be. As the engine has had more miles put on it, it has increased it's consumption.

But on the other hand would this be good for a little more passing power?
