Thank you.

are you still going to be able to make it up to Barber next weekend? If so, I really want to take a few minutes, and learn a little more about the issues you have had, and learn a little more about the whole situation, and see what the car sounds like with an aftermarket cat.

This is one damn confusing thread about what flash is out there as new...last Sept, Sept 2005, I had the car flashed...an early 04 MT model. In checking my records the flash used was 'S'. So why is the 'new' flash still 'S'?

Just got a call from the service dept - they said they've re-flashed my car (was on R) - I'll post up any impressions and what-not.

I got an oil change this morning and I carefully checked the repair sheet. No ecu changes were noted.

I went to the dealer this morning for a few things. I specifically requested for them to NOT CHANGE MY OIL. "That will be $37 sir." "What for?" "Oil Change." "But I told them to not give me one." "Well they did." Luckily I got them to erase the charge and I didn't have to pay for it.

Anyway, also got the brake squeal TSB done and tried once again to get the hubs painted, but no luck.

The last time I had the car in was back in April and no flash was done then. The time before that was December 2005. I can't find any sheets that say the car was EVER flashed. So today I told the guy "Yes, could you please reflash to the S which came out in early June?" Get the sheet back and it says "There are no updates, vehicle is current." WTF? I don't have a scanner to check it myself, so I have no idea what flash my car is on. It hasn't been upped since at least 2005. It is a 2005 MT. I smell BS.

I would suspect that dealers would not change the PCM flash just because there is a new flash. The purpose of reflashing is to solve certain problems. If you have no symptoms why would they do anything?.In the case of this latest flash, when you take your car in tell the service advisor you have an unstable idle speed when the AC is turned on and can they please fix it.

i got the flash today to see if it helped the idle issue. My idle had recently improved with the A/C already due to new plugs and I believe 5W-30 oil. With my brief experiences, the idle does seem smoother, it doesn't seem to stumble, except occationally when the car transitions from load to idle.

I'll watch it more carefully over the next few days and report back.

my dealer (Ferman Mazda) also told me they wouldn't flash unless the flash fixed issues my car was having.

When they handed me the keys back though, they said they did the flash.

The exhaust note is actually slightly different (sub 4k rpm) than before.

The biggest change with the new flash is that my car takes a lot longer to start up than before.

When I received the upgraded starter and batt, the car was starting up in 2 turnovers. Now it takes about 6 before it gets going. Typical?

Seems that in Cyprus they are already treating it a a recall. I just booked mine in for the recalls and they told me that here, the only reacalls they are doing is the exhaust thermo shield and the software update

EDIT
Come to think of it, how can they only offer me some of the recalls? Surely as an official mazda agent they are obliged to perform all recalls regardless of which country the car was bought in>

UPDATE Aug 3rd.

Apparently its not the latest flash....I am told its coming here around October.

well it does depend on the country- your laws may be different. also the cars that went to cypress may be known to not have a certain issue because of build date. like the control arm recall. perhaps your car is not a part because all the suspect parts were used before or after your car was built.

Okay - I didn't notice any special difference on the car...until today. On the way to work.

Before, on the R-flash, I'd feel a distinct pull like baby-VTEC as the Rpms rose. That feeling is lessened now; except the car seems to pull harder, earlier. I might dyno next week, just to see what I see.

I have to agree. My car was flashed yesterday and so far, the car pulls harder and smoother, and the idle with the A/C is much better than with the "R" flash. It also seems to have a little more passing power in 6th gear on the interstate as well. I will report back if I notice anything else with this new flash.

You are probably right, I guess time will tell. This is also a good thing, it shows me that Mazda is tweaking this car and we are getting something a little better with each flash. If they want to keep making it better, I will keep taking a little bit of my time to get the ECU flashed.

Also, one other thought, it might be that it pulls the same as before, but they have made it where it is that much smoother that you don't feel that "VTEC" jump in power, just a constant pull.

J - Maybe due to the fuel cut on cold start:

Alot of people are using low grade fuel and lugging car around and causing carbon to build in engine. Oil will seal the apex seals to the chamber. also there is stratagy for cold start issues by messing with timing and fuel cut on start up. Like i said the only thing with higher rpm is more oil injection into the cylinder, These are the only things they are trying to change at this time. You really don't need the flash because you drive your car the right way, not like the ones that lugg around town and stop and never get into higher rpms. Well if any questions about this let me know. Happy driving and keep it red lined!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I missed out on a lot of posts.

Not sure if this is related but I've been doing a LOT of driving in really hot weather (100+) and lately and if I'm the road for a long time, it seems to lose some of it's "grunt"..... Any ideas? Almost like there isn't the same power there used to be at the higher rpm's....
