He's as bad as Can
Since this would be the first ‘ recall’ flash (not counting the 2003 port reflashes) one would think it includes some major changes. I am still not quite sure what this would do for me? My 8 runs fine, I use Pre-mix so I don’t care about the MOP change. Has it been determined that this flash either improves power or mpg? Otherwise MOP & A/C idle issues are not a concern of mine.

no the thermal issue was a flash and blanket. the main reason to get it is because it to help keep your engine from needing to be replaced- especially the ATs. it'll be a recall so get it done

So the other day I took my 8 into the dealer to fix my squealing brakes (2nd TSB) and to see if I could get the new flash loaded becuase I have been having a rough idle and heard that this flash has fixed that problem on some 8's.
The response I get from the dealer regarding the rough idle / new flash after they have had my car for two days:
There is no new flash you speak of besides the flooding flash. Our techs typed into the mazda service support website your complaint of a rough Idle and it stated that afermarket intakes will cause a rough idle due to a disrupted stream of air flow to the MAF. They state that the stock airbox is designed to eliminate restriction and create a smooth air flow over the MAF. They instructed me to put my factory intake and exhaust back on and then they will recheck it.
O.k. well this response would be fine if I did not have a Mazdaspeed CAI and Exhuast!! Isn't the whole point of purchasing a Mazdaspeed product to avoid the issues that I just stated. I pretty much laughed at their response and clarified that they will not work on my 8 since I have an aftermarket intake and exhaust and did no troubleshooting at all. For the most part they agreed. They supposedly called a mazda service support tech supervisor and they confirmed this response to me. They even kept my car for two days to confirm their response. I find it funny that the extent of their troubleshooting is typing my concern into a mazda website and going only by what the computer spits out. What kind of self respecting mechanic does that?
How worthless are dealers. I said dont worry about it and picked up my car. I will troubleshoot the issue myself or take it to a different dealer. Sorry just wanted to vent.

if the coil is burned enough, you can actually see it... bastards fixing what needs to be fixed and not what you wanted them to be fixed!

Ha, ha. I do drive it hard and rev it high on occasion, just not in my "normal" daily driving, or at least not constantly in my daily driving. There is generally one place on my way to work where I will rev it up over 6K and one spot on the way home where I will do the same, but I don't do it constantly. My stop and go traffic on I-84 on my way to work when I am actually moving usually hovers around 4k-4.5K because everytime I shift up to third I have to stop almost immediately. Now, if I make no effort to try to shift into third we keep right on moving. LOL

Just scheduled an appointment today, hopefully for a newer flash than I have. I spoke with the service deparment/dispatch and put out keywords "latest flash/download/pcm/computer" and they came back with "You want your container re-written" so I said yes. Is this "container re-written" what I want? Build date of vehicle is 5/05.

Not sure if it was mentioned but I recently noticed the fuel gauge seems to work better now. At first I thought my gas mileage went way down because the gauge was moving so much faster but yesterday I filled up after going 188 miles with 3/4 of the tank empty so maybe it has improved a touch.
With the current tank of gas I plan to run it down to when the light comes on to see how far I can go. Hopefully I can get 220+ miles with the next tank.

Ok, the service representative could not flash it unless I had a problem, which I do not. He warned that if there's nothing wrong now I risk getting problems after flashing. He also said to come back in several weeks for the recall... Doesn't make sense, why would he tell me to turn the car in for the 2-day recall and get a flash done if, by his own logic, there is nothing wrong with my car now and he's unwilling to flash a perfectly good car?
