I know that it is RPM based; and I will keep a close eye on it, since I don't redline 3rd every time. I know there is some reaction time involved, but it consistantly started to beep at 78-80 before the reflash, and I generally anticipate it and shift right at the beep. I'll keep you posted MM, b/c I know you're gonna lose sleep about it.

The best I could figure is these numbers are dealer specific part/work orders for a PCM reflash. How can I determine which flash rev it is.
Forgive my lack of mazdacity. Thanks.

Are any of the updated flashes available under warranty that comes basic for every mazda rx8 50,000 miles?
Should I mention flash updates when I go to Mazda whenever I get any service done by them or they just let me know if any updates are available when they do any inspection of my car?
Thanks!

This answer is probably posted in the 23 pages, but bare with me. This flash is supposed to inject more oil in your rotors during light cruising conditions to allow better sealing - correct? Then why are so many saying that there idle is smoothing out with or without the A/C on. I do not understand how the two are related. I have a rough idle with the A/C on and I was wondering if this could be a fix??

IT smooth out the idle by telling the engine what to do.
cracked engine mount might be the cause of your rough idle as well, you might want to check into that, its a known issue.

When everone says that it pumps more oil into the engine, what would be considered normal oil consumption? Now I know it would have to do with driving habits, but approx. Just curious.

I got a CEL on Tues. I had the code read, and it was P0456 I looked it up and it didn't seem to be anything to serious. I found a TSB contianing that code, which requires a re-flash so, I finally got a chance to take the car to the shop today and I told them what I had going on and told them about the rough idle and vibration. I was expecting them to do the flash but instead they told me that there was no code showing and that the rough idle was probably caused by burnt ignition coils. They put in new coils but did not do the flash, they also checked the motor mounts but they were good. I did notice it does idle a little better but would have liked to receive the new flash.

some dealers are retarded... that actually cost mazda a lot more money than simply re-flashing. why not re-flash w/ the latest update after spending the time and money to replace the coils???

^^cuz like u said, they're retards.
They think that they know all, well, sorry thats FAR from true.
The fact is, they know MORE than typical customers, but for people who did their homework like most of us here. sorry, I have to tell you(dealership) what to do.
I guess you might want to talk to them again saying that your engine just shut off on highway, which requires a reflash. If they still dont want to do them, F-U them and go somewhere else (if you can)

what if he already had code newer than the TSB he found? then the fix in the TSB has already been done to his car and flashing it would not do anything.
