^^lol, while likely less expensive than Ti, billet AL doesn't make much financial sense either

the most cost effective thing will be to modify/strengthen the OE part and then sell them on a deposit-based exchange

The beauty of billet is - I hit "GO" on the machine and walk away.
15 minutes later, I grab my part and leave. This is how I deal with most of the custom stuff on my robots.
For a part that is basically a "U" bracket, that makes sense to me.
Really, the easiest solution is to just spot-weld the existing piece and "close the box" with a cross member.
Unless you are going to replace the entire pivot mechanism, not much is going to improve the feel.

for most people the machinist hits "GO" after an extensive setup charge which is typically only justified by large volume runs or a class of vehicle owners that don't think twice about paying whatever it costs for small runs, that's not the typical RX-8 owner though

if the fix is just a simple add-on bracket then the material type may not matter much

I don't have to deal with any of that. I take measurements, draw it in AutoCAD, dump it on a memory stick, walk down to the machine (when I'm in MD, otherwise I e-mail it to someone in the shop), stick the memory stick in, move the file, start the program and hit go (provided I have a piece of material in the chuck).
I can do anything simple and less than a foot square in aluminum.

Well, I'll be in MD on the weekend of 6/9 - 6/11.
I could chuck a part.

More to the point - it is a worthwhile idea to entertain that you should get a basic CNC machine. You could easily amortize the cost over the period that you fab custom parts. Its basically just a Dremel on a jig with a USB jack.
I've thought about moving the SOA machine here, but I'd have to do it myself and I don't really have anywhere to put it. (Not that its big - it looks like a weird drill press.)

Once I get to AZ with my CNC-ready machine tools I'll build them in-house or, literally, in-garage. Hopefully, I'll have them ready for SSX (along with my radiators and axles).
What's the differences/advantages for your design vs. Koyo? Just curious, I'm guessing you saw a need beyond what the aftermarket already offered?

Koyo (and others) don't make an AT-specific replacement. You would need to configure something for the tranny cooler if you went with a Koyo on an AT car.

I thought you were going to have a Koyo clutch mod that addresses the inherent weaknesses of the clutch pedal cooling on the AT models.

I was just answering his question. Everything on this forum is a mish-mosh.

Congratulations Ray! Good combination.
Now, throw most of that into the house and borrow against it.

Don't get me started on Unions. I'm pretty liberal in most ways, but unions aren't one of them.
Certainly, they are the single greatest contributing factor to why America is in the crapper with regards to industry and technology - rewarding sloth, stupidity and bad choices with protected income. Brilliant.

The investment thing is all about maximizing cash flow.
Your house is stable, so sink enough cash into it to keep your mortgage at a minimum and then borrow against it ad lib.

Come on now, it's not just those two issues.

Since corporate mgmt has starting achieving to quarterly goals they cannot plan for the future.

The little companies that you guys run will be all thats left as the large ones fail.

The more I think about it, the more it works for me!

Gee to think I passed up this forum just cuz I have an a/t. A clutch bracket for the a/t, a/t radiator, machinist discussing billet machining, financial advise, varied costs of base materials, unionism, socialism - Where else could you find this diversity

Well aware, but my question was baed on your mention of the product in the post before my own - "(along with my radiators and axles)". Also, not having an AT is probably why I missed that thread.

socialism is not a bad thing.

after all, whos going to care for the people that get hurt on the job, or lose their jobs dude to international outsourcing...

having worked both union and non-union, i would say that union shops are definately more profitable with a higher standard of living than non union shops.

And thats what its all about, higher standard of living for everyone.

Can we just keep it to the "clutch bracket" topic, please?

I opened a Socialist/Union thread for you in the Lounge......
