Its a complete waste of time. Sure you can try it out for fun, but to me this aint a fun nor a *worth to give it a shot* project at all.

Labor is free yes I know. and you already have an EMS.

the shaft alone cost 1K brand new. what about other console pieces ? those cost alot too. sure you can shift without any of those cosmetic stuff. but why would you want a car like that ?

Why not just trade it into an MT ? after that you can use your *free labor* advantage to do other stuff ?

If you trade it with an MT, at least you dont have to deal with X amount of problems you might have after the swap.

Fine lets say you really swap your car with MT tranny and stuff, no problem. but the cost will be more than or about the same as trade it in for MT

I would, but I really don't want to spend any money you know, and I don't wanna take out all the mods that I have done to this car already..........

I think trade it in is the *once and for all* solution.

If I have your advantage (uncle has a garage), I think I install some sort of FI to my car already.

Trust me, you'll still spend alot of money doing the swap, and who knows what the results will be? If it works 100% like a stock MT car, congratulations !

but what if it fails? you're going to end up with nothing but a totally **** up car.

we don't have a tuning station nor a dyno, but installing FI is probable, just need da FI

yea trade in would be a better solution, but seriously, 2007AT for trade with stock MT, who would take it? really, who would

nobody, it was your mistake that you got the AT in the first place.

Im not saying its your fault, you have your reasons.

but if *ultimate* performance is your goal, you made a terrible choice, at least for this car.

If I were you, if money is an issue, I will try to work my *** hard, save the money up to "correct" my mistake.

If money is not an issue .... just go trade it. You will lose couple of grand I know, but lessons learned.

i really don't know why they make sports cars with an automatic option.

although, i can see why they would make the rx8 an auto because of the four seats but not a rotary.

rotaries should never be automatic imo. no offense to the AT users but it's my opinion.

the difference is clearly power. and a lower redline.

nah, I never considered it as a terrible mistake, I got this car for a very great price new and all, and ultimate performance is not my goal, I'm just succumbing to peer pressure........

worse comes to worse, I'll probably stick an sl500 or 335i torque converter in there or do something else.....I still really want to know the difference though, nycgps if u know anymore, please tell me

not much I guess. I think the dash board is different. hmm what else. cant think of any right now.

but its going to cost you more than trade in, even your labor is free.

Thats all I gotta say.

You're going to get CEL thats *pretty much* for sure. your drivetrain will be completely different. Your ECU will be like *WTF?* and give you some sort of error. sensors are diff from AT and MT.

*unexpected* things going to happen, eventually you will be sick of it, and wonder why you did the swap in the first place.

cuz seriously, the *ultimate* goal for your project : a stock MT car.

instead of the 04, I *really* suggest you trade in and get a newer year model.

save money up, when you have enough, trade it in for maybe 08 ?

Even if you do the tranny swap and it somehow worked, would the AT engine be capable of going up to 9k RPM? In terms of engine components (not tranny), how is it different from the AT to MT?

Haha, just cause everyone is doing drugs doesn't mean you need to do it too? Not saying anyone does but that's pretty much what the AT vs. MT on a 8 debate is all about.. Everyone gets a MT and some bash you for getting a AT, as if you ain't a "cool kid". I have a AT and I'm fine with it. I've had some minor thoughts of trading my 8 for a MT and whatnot but nah.. I didn't want this car to be my first stick. Since this was and is my first car. In the long run, of course, I'll then switch to MT. I'm happy with the car I drive though.. I wasn't really hoping to add any max performance mods on this car anyways. I can always look nice in the streets.. And add the baby mods almost every car has..

^ yea man, its not just this forum though, in real life too, lol, it kinda sucks and I'm kinda bored of driving an AT, this is my first AT car btw, before that was all stick( thanks to thailand's high automobile pricing) and I had a stick minivan, and a stick s2k, and I finally bought an AT on this car (which was omgzor deal) like I said, I bought it on a whim, I never knew about the rx-8, all I cared about was the FD at that moment, but I really liked the car and how it handles, (the rpm was about the same as the FDs, so I figured wtf probably ok 212 hp, not so bad) walla, I was happy with my car for about..........4weeks? then I found this forum......
to sum it up, I'm just bored and want to drive MT again(although its gonna be a bitch in this kind of fucked traffic)

Yeh bro, I got this car at a great price too.. I couldn't walk away from that.. I pretty much did little research on the AT 8 and found out later after being around this forum. Even though I sometimes cry myself to sleep, I'm still driving a niceass car, and when I do get bored of the AT, I switch it over to the "manual mode" and have a little fun there.. Which ain't the same but somewhat similar.. In some ways..

A couple of items to try and answer your original question:

Clutch line and clutch slave cylinder.

The brake Master cylinder supplies the fluid for the clutch so the master cylinder may be different and you'll need to run the clutch line and slave cylinder.

Also the AT has a flex plate instead of a flywheel. You'll need to take that off and put on a flywheel (I recommend Racing Beat).

You'll have to swap out your brake pedal and install a clutch pedal.

You'll need a different shifter boot.

You'll need the Drive Shaft.

I don't know if the AT comes with the powerplant Frame or if it's the same but you may need one of those.

There is a reverse gear sensor in the MT. You'll need to run the wire for that. Where ever it comes from, I don't know.

This is not a definitive list but this is what I know of that is specific to the MT. Hope this gets you started.

And I have no idea about the PCM.
