Why wouldn't it? 2 complete separate systems?

The trouble with any radiator in the rx8 is its position (steep angle) the front air channeling (really sucks and on some cars air doesnt even penetrate the top 1/3 of the radiator) and the blockage behind it. The engine bay design doesnt allow for good air flow/ exit.
The BHR rad will no doubt help--especially with your trans temps, but the most effective help for coolant temps is the secondary radiator placed where airflow is good. Its all about the airflow.
Actually my track temps etc where great. Its only when on a hot summer day and you get stuck in stop and go traffic did my car start getting a little hot. That is what motivated me to find my solution.
Again you cant go wrong with the Rad you have gotten--especially for the increased Trans temps. If you keep the rpms down and are not in a stop and go situation --you may be just fine. Just keep an eye on it --thats all.

Just so you know - olddragger's plans did help with the coolant temps, but for track temps we ended up having to use a larger second radiator than what he uses to get them under control. We got them down to 225 using the summit racing cooler he uses. We got them down to 206 with a larger secondary radiator. I think this is because with the AT you are cooling coolant and ATF with the main radiator.

so i see, thx for that mdw1000.

Mm i think its time to slow down and focus on street drivability first.

I think i may end up getting a 2nd oil cooler for summer, and sticking with the current list of mods.

Once it goes through the test of a australian summer then we can look at additional cooling.

Now my supercharger shouldve arrived today >.<

Jason, as you know, with my car, I have "intercooler" and 2nd oil-cooler. My car survived through this and last summer with no problems. And thats peak hour, stop-start traffic for an hour. I wasnt aware the Auto's used the radiator to cool the trans' so may be different for you.

With the larger" mouth" on your body kit, you are probably going to get some better air flow across the radiator than me, and if you aren't going to have an intercooler then even better (are you going to use one?). Maybe speak to Tim about trying to get the radiator to sit a bit better.

Also, when you get your fuel pump put in (if you haven't already), get the FPR checked as well. Mine was apparently cactus.

Cheers

Andrew

ok, with funds drying up.

Im forced to decide between the mazmart water pump/thermostat vs a 2nd oil cooler.

What would you guys recommend?

in terms of cooling, i got BHR radiator

If you are only doing street driving for now, I'd just monitor coolant and oil temps. You may not end up needing either.

When you get ready for track driving, I'd recommend at least the water pump and the oil cooler. I'm going to be installing and testing the thermostat on track in July. It is going to be at a track I've never been to before, so it won't be completely an apples to apples comparision, but it will hopefully give me an idea of whether or not the thermostat makes a big difference on track. I'm suspecting it will give me similar results to running the heater without having to actually run the heater. Or maybe if I do run the heater, I will see even better results.

I will be back at my home track in August (where I've gathered most of my data and done most of my testing), so depending on the ambient temps it may be more of a true comparison test of the thermostat.

If you are concerned about the cost of the install, I think the water pump/thermostat combo would be cheaper to install than the second oil cooler.

Your buddy that is running 275 whp on a 4-port MT - what kind of boost levels is he running at? Any idea what kind of air he is flowing (cubic feet per minute, for example)?

Also, what kind of a dyno is he seeing those numbers on?

Just curious, haven't dynoed mine yet. Mine won't be anywhere near that close, between only 5 psi and the automatic transmission losses. I dynoed at 140 whp on a mustang dyno before the supercharger.

Well the supercharger arrived!!!!!!

everything looks good, it comes with a small intercooler that sits in the engine bay where the stock intake air comes from, this is also connected to a duct that directly draws air from outside, sort of like the rev beat intake duct.

I also got a ECU.

Its a reflashed ecu N3H3 EGI n3H3 18 881R

mmm another ecu to try ^^

Most likely its a jap ecu that has been flashed, but we will see how it goes, in the process of asking what sort of car was the original owners

you mean the oil cooler looking type thing?

Honestly your best bet is to smell the pip fittings on it. if it smells like oil, its an oil cooler if it smells like coolant its a radiator. if it smells like trans fluid its a transmission cooler.

no fluids left in it

Some residual on bubble wrap was very light yellow colour (goldish)

When wiped, its black (off the cooler itself)

Oh this is going to be interesting?
That cooler can be for trans or oil --its a universal type.
Watch your post boost intake charge temps.

Ditto... i wouldn't run it as a trans cooler until you have it professionally cleaned though.
