I'll be bookmarking this thread for sure. I've been debating doing this to my 8 in a few years...assuming I still have the car. I'm going to wait till after I draw a few years of 2LT pay and pay off the little debt I have before making a major purchase like this. I guess I'll start saving in November, when they activate me for Nav school.

Can you post up a total cost when it's all said and done? If you could break it down into categories like Major Components (Turbo, etc), Supporting Components (Gauges, BOVs, etc), Support Mods (EGT sensors, tranny mods, Meth Kits, etc), and Additional components (Bolts, Couplers, etc). Oh, and Labor would be nice too.

Thanks for the thread! I'll be following for sure.

Oh yeah, This:
his A-Ora? or something in his neck got sliced and he passed away shortly after...
was probably this: Aorta. The Aorta is the main artery on the top of the heart. All blood pumped from the heart enters the aorta and is then routed to the rest of the body. A ruptured or punctured aorta is a very short death sentence

Cody - Total Costs were around $7,000
- Turbo Kit: $3,4000
- Greddy PullyKit: $160
- Greddy BOV RS: $210
- Agency Power Manual Boost Controller: $100
- Greddy High Capacity Oil Pan: $375
- Greddy Type RS Blow-Off Valve: $235
- Greddy Oil Filter Relocation Kit: $160
- Prosport Premium Boost Gauge: $80
- Prosport Premium Oil Tempature Gauge: $68
- Prosport Premium Oil Pressure Gauge: $100
- Prosport Premium Water Tempature Gauge: $68
- Prosport Premium Air Fuel Gauge: $235
- Prosport Premium EGT Gauge: $110
- Racing Beat Gauge Pod: $115
- Greddy Super Light Oil Catch Can: $107
- Esmeril Racing RX-8 Ignition Upgrade (MazdaParts.Com) $395
- Esmeril Racing Spark Plugs (MazdaParts.Com) $119
1 Wrap, TBW 20' $34.99 $34.99
1 Turbo Cover $159.00 $159.00
1 Panel, TBP 2'x2' $49.00 $49.00
AccessPort (MM)- 730
Install of all parts above: $3178.00 (This included custom made parts to make it work)
Total: $10187

Now remember you only really need the turbo (3,400) BOV (235), Oil Pan (375), Boost Gauge is a plus (80) too and install ($2000-3000) to be good to go. I went to the best shop in the area and they do race cars etc. I paid for the name of the service lol, but it came back like it was at West Coast Customs if they did engine bays.

Nice, Nice

Running on any coilover setup or sways to hold the car better? That price doesn't look to bad but it's all the upgrades after that point which will dig deeper into your pocket. Once you think you're finish there is always something else.

Hi Mark,

I have an RX8 that I really want to turbo charge. Which greddy kit will bolt on directly and have everything compatible included such as emanage?

Can I get away with just their base kit w/ intercooler and emanage? Are the fuel maps specific to MT, or are they usable on Automatic transmission as well?

Thank you so much for your help.

I also heard of Cobb Access port for better tune at higher boost.

Thanks for the info man!

Take care,
Mark

Mark - I am not using E-manage at all for the AT. I talked to Greddy and they were so against putting it on and from what I heard E-mange with a auto isn't too good. As of now I"m using the Access Port base FI tune by MM. You can get away with just their kit, a BOV, oil catch (just incase), but sell e-mange and buy a Access Port from Mazda Manic.

The E-mangle sucks in tuning compared to a AccessPORT.

And it's MazdaManiac..... however he can be a little manic sometimes ! .

Mark,

That's awesome man. I'm about to purchase a T618Z greddy kit, which is used and does not come with E-manage.

For now, I'm thinking about just installing the kit in my garage, tune with mazdamaniac and access port.

Am I forgetting anything? I practically got stuck with this car due to my ex.. I used to drive a 2G turbo eclipse, but had to sell. We tuned through the stock ECU as well, but I had to put 650cc injectors, fuel pump and other support items for 22 psi boost.

I really just want the spool up/boost feeling of acceleration again, so this is why I'm going to invest in turbo charging this car. The cheapest most affordable route will suffice.

So, will the T618Z kit and access port/mm tunes be the only items I need?

Thanks again for all the info. I may add the EGT, BOOST and other necessary warning gauges later down the road to keep from melting the engine.

How did you install the oil feed and drain line??? Was this direct bolt on??

Thanks again for your help man. I'll post pics as well, as I go through this. =)

p.s. Any check engine lights after turbo install?

Thanks,
Mark

for the oil lines, you will either need to hook the drain hose to your drain plug hole, drill and tap a hole for an additional fitting, or buy a greddy oil pan.

you might also need to make a custom intake to be able to get stable airflow across the MAF.

I just bought this kit. It's the greddy bolt on kit without emanage.

I'll be ordering the COBB access port / mazda maniac tune soon. Does he include a base line MAP?? Then I can decide when to start my 6 month tune trial??

Why will I have to drill the pan? I thought this was a bolt on kit.??

Thanks,

Mark

Don't forget the hole for the level sensor.
But it's on the other side, so we get your message.

You don't HAVE to drill a new hole, you will be plugging your drain if you don't - no biggy, you just loosen the clamp and rotate the fitting out to drain.

I'll replace all the couplers and stuff.

Does anybody have a list of gaskets, etc to order from Mazda?? I know exhaust manifold gasket is needed, but I'm sure there's much more.

I'm trying to get all the stuff so I can bang this out in one weekend. I work like 2 miles away, it's my only ride.. but ya I cannot wait to do the install!

Thanks for all your help! I'll post pics and what not regarding the "Economy install".

Mark

P.S. How does the greddy intercooler look with the stock front bumper w/ airdam? Any pics out there?
