I notice some slip here and there when I launch hard and shift to second at 10psi, but very rarely. Other than that the stock Exedy has held up just fine.

The Act is a good setup though, I have driven a couple of RX-8's with it.

Uh, no, should I? I thought that was the wrong thing to do with a new clutch?

EDIT: Well, I guess if I did a little research I would see that it is the correct way to do it for race discs

"For organic street discs, we recommend breaking in the clutch for 300-500 miles with mild engagement, such as stop-and-go city driving prior to racing or spirited driving. ACT race discs usually only require a few hard slips to lap in the surfaces prior to normal driving or racing. Do not overheat the clutch during the break in period, as this can result in friction surfaces fusing together, hot spots, and friction surface glazing."

It's the SS clutch line slash. At least i think so.

Also, i did a bit of MILD break in with it then smoked the tires a few times lol

All is well now

So... no more clutch slip

Without the slipping clutch I am getting better turbo response. Same settings and I hit 20pis getting on the freeway today... Started misfiring like crazy, which I'm sure hurt the power. Looks like AEM coils will be my next upgrade!

You guys both suck because you both make me feel like my turbo is inadequate.... Im coming for both of you...

Anywho, these tuning tid bits you guys keep chatting about between build threads. Why not consolidate into one useful thread??

Just a thought.

I mostly keep to my thread just so I don't clutter others. Not for lack of consolidating

Decided to check my ESS and it was filthy.

Cleaned and reset and no more misfires.

Then drove to the E85 station and found this sad sight. They don't know if they will get more...

Ah nuts, no more 20psi? That dripping sound may or may not be my heart bleeding for you :p

Do you think your turbo is starting to top out with this much airflow?

Worth tapping the exhaust manifold and the pre-compressor intake pipe with pressure sensors to check your efficiency?

20psi wasn't intentional lol. I was previously hitting 16psi with the same BC setting. But due to the clutch slipping previously it apparently wasn't reaching full potential. With no more clutch slippage it boosted more than I expected, so I assume anyway.

I do think that I have reached the efficiency range for my setup. While manifold pressure hit 20psi the load and airflow really didn't increase much from what I was seeing at 16psi...

There has been a local outcry regarding the station discontinuing E85, including a local performance shop. Sounds like the station owner plans to continue carrying it and is supposed to have more later this week... Fingers crossed!

I turned the BC down and I was able to get rid of the misfires up to 16psi by cleaning and resetting the ESS. I haven't tried more cuz I was outta fuel. I need more ethanol before I continue higher testing.

Seems like a worthwhile thing to start checking/cleaning on a more regular basis, maybe with each swap of the spark plugs... I know I'll be having a look at mine as soon as this snow is gone. Did you use any solvents or contact cleaner to clean it or just gave it a wipe?

I just called the local E85 station and it is official. Their distributor will no longer deliver to them so they will no longer carry it

Yeah... I actually looked at that. Based on their blending guide a 32oz container would get about 97'ish octane with a 92 base octane (2oz/gal=96 octane, 3oz/gal=98 octane). At $30 per 32oz plus the tank of gas that gets a bit spendy... Still better than race gas which is locally around $14/gal last I checked...

But you lose the cooling effect which is a massive plus for the Renesis
All hail
Scooby guys mix petrol with methanol here and reporting no ill effects.
Have you considered it ?
Virgin methanol in the 205Litres steel barrels can be really cheap
