Cam, shoot me a PM when you'd like about having yours done. I don't have any TB's at the moment so whichever ones I do would be sent here, modified, then returned.

My original engine is still in the car and fires right up fine. 88K on it now.
I really kicked myself for not jumping at that deal.

Thread revival FTW.

Ported and polished my throttle body today with leftovers from porting turbo housings.

The butt dyno definitely feels a pickup in the midrange, and throttle response is improved.
Bypassed the throttle body coolant line too so maybe both are helping.

Good mod!

question is --now--do you know why you feel more throttle response and midrange power?

Yeah, this is essentially the same concept as the VFAD except it's not adjusting like the vfad.(Or all the other intake valves too)
The small chamber helps with low end - keeping the velocity up in the lower rpms when the engine cannot pull in as much air (or lower engine VE), while the second longer chamber and storage area provides the needed air for the mid-high end powerband.
By eliminating the VFAD, increasing intake flow, and opening up the throttle body your essentially "tuning"/shifting your intake or powerband.
Which is why FI guys might encounter a much more noticeable change, they have already shifted they're powerband, so any intake change to support that - would help.

Intake tuning, intake tumbler valves, intake runner valves, adjustable intakes valves. Whatever you want to call it. Has been used for decades to smooth out the powerband.

On my application (See my vbgarage in sig.) I noticed a difference, however I'm not sure if one would on a completely stock rx8.
Smoothing out the entrance of the throttle body which I think helps IMO for reducing the resistance of air entering the throttle body/intake. However there's that golf ball theory that people scream blasphemy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Just spitting out my concept here before I start work, but at least you get the idea.

EDIT** It'd be interesting to see this combined with the VFAD now that I think about it.

Didn't manage to snap a pic of my throttle body, but like I said I've done a few port and polishes before. Here's a pic of my old 16G Evo III Turbo housing (running a 38mm 02 external wastegate) I got to nearly a mirror finish. At least you get the idea I didn't hog out my throttle body egg shaped LOL.

lol thanks. That housing was pretty wicked. id spike to 28psi in first and second gear before it settled to 26psi. Likely from making the wastegate opening too big!
Whoops! nothing a good tune couldnt handle!

His main page or "home" doesn't work on his site. Someone prob deleted the index.html file. Try this page. It also has his email on it.

Brian Cain is hack, if you know what's good for you then leave your TB alone. There is a reason he doesn't post anymore.
