I've got a spare one here that's available. I'd like a turbo guy to snag this one.

Brian, I'm looking at buying another K&N V2 intake so I can send you the tube. If I do will you port and polish? or no need to?

I got my ported throttle body installed last night. All I can say if you know your car (and I know mine) your going to like it. I can tell the rpms move a bit faster than before and with the AP under drive pully she feels great!
I have told my RX-8 owners about my new toy and will let them test drive my 8 so they can see if its for them or not.
Great work Brian!

One more thing, can I send you my throttle body so you can do that one for my friend?
I'm going to pay but let him test it out on his stock 8.

Thanks!
-Gil

I doubt I'd need to honestly.

Right on! I am glad to hear that! I've been anxious to get some feedback from you and this is definitely good news!

Sorry for the delay work has been a mess. I need a vacation. Anyway.
Ok no need for that then.
About the other TB, I'll be talking to you this Thursday.
When I find out how and where to mount my camara in my 8 I'll see if I can get some pix of the rpms.
Ever sence I put this bad boy on after every shift or when I let my foot off the gas I get pop pop pop lol and when going wot on the freeway on ramps I hear boom! in between shifts. Also exhaust note has changed. Dont know if thats due to coil upgrade or this TB but yeah crazy.
Cant wait for dyno day WOT!

You did the BHR coil upgrade right before the TB upgrade.

Get the BHR fixed first and report back how you like the TB.

I was waiting for Ray to test it.

I'm cutting (the term I use for harsh grinding) the metal, doing some re-shaping, then finish work with polishing at the very end. Granted, since the body is only so big, I'm not taking loads of metal out. The idea on this is to skinny up the boundary layer on it, taper the input edge, remove the transition "dent" above the throttle butterfly, and slightly widen its inner diameter. The positive effects are snappier throttle, better low and midrange, and more "ferocious" boost thresshold (the RPM time it takes to hit target boost is much more quicker and aggressive). Take a peek at the photo attached for a comparison.

I am still trying to feel the 8 market out on this. I've not done too many of these as of yet but from the ones I've done it's shown a marked improvement in the performance of the car. I expect it to be more substantive on a turbo setup and I'd like some more feedback from some of you turbo guys on it.

Throttle bodies aren't new to me. I've been doing these technically longer than I've been porting engines. This 8 TB, even though it's a drive-by-wire unit, is the same as alot of other factory TB's in its dimensions. The job done on this yields the same improvements that those other vehicles have seen.

how many mm did you bore it out?

I don't know. I haven't measured it. It's not linear from the top to its base, either. It has been cut quite a bit, though.

I'm sitting here with my throttle body off the car, but I don't time to part with it. I noticed it is really dirty. First time I have had it off in 77K of miles...

I did similar to the TB for my vette and it really does make a difference. Its true its not alot of material and it may not amount to alot in terms of airflow or horsepower, but it does make throttle response feel "crisper".

I'll have to port mine, give me something to do while I wait for all my turbo parts to get here

OK Dudes this interests me.
Since I am a cheap old man I am doing the porting/polishing myself. BUT--i can provide before and after hard data with maf readings etc. I am running the pettit kit BUT I think this engine is moving more air at times than some may think and this may help some. Read my thread on the right size air filter that is needed also!

That would be great. I really wanna do this because I had good results previooulsy on blown cars I have owned. I just need to justify the downtime in sending in mine to him.

ok maf grams per sec air flow change
3nd gear 7700rpm 291 grams per sec before porting
after 295grams per sec
there is a better throttle response --its obvious in driving the car.s
judge for yourself.

This + light weight flywheel = sexy throttle response.

Thanks for measuring OD. Did you take photos of your TB? To your knowledge, is it similar to Brian's mod?

The jump from 91 to 295 doesn't seem like much but it sounds like it makes a material difference based upon your comments....

That is equivalent to a .05" change in the barometer.
Just having the sun move 15° higher in the sky will change the ambient that much, let alone 2° or 3° of reduction in your coolant temps.

I'm not saying that porting the TB is a bad idea (I don't know if it is or if it isn't), but a single RPM point MAF reading doesn't tell us anything, regardless of the actual delta. (Its just more useless when the number is that small.)
