Well, being an atheist raised in a secular-Jewish household would limit my "tree" experience, but we exchanged some pretty cool stuff around here a few weeks ago - most of it not car-related since the rest of the year is about that.
A bunch of X-Box360 games, a drill press, some 21-year-old Glenlivet, etc..

Jeff , with your sense of humour you will appreciate this .

weeweechu

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, 'Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu.'

Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!' said Rosita.

Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time,' Pedro begged.

'But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon.'replied Rosita.

Please, Corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me.'Rosita looked at Pedro and said, 'OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu.'Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang.....

'Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.'

All the best to everyone who has entertained me on this Forum for the year

Cheers
Michael

No.
Its sad to me how the commercial channels have hooked the population into their marketing by equivocating spiritual/religious sentiment with gift giving/purchasing.
Its not just Christmas, either.
Just think how pleased Jesus would be at the spectacle of a modern Christmas.
I bet he would have opted out of the resurrection bit entirely...

We shouldn't allow Hallmark/DeBeers/WalMart to dictate our generosity, let alone our spiritualism.

Mike - Thanks for that! Chag Sameach!

For me, clothes. I did get the AFE Short Shifter, and I guess you could say the flash was a present to myself.

Otherwise, most of the gifts under the tree were for my kids, with a purse and some random stuff for the wife.

I agree with MM ---commercialism has ruined the holiday. My teenage children get angry at me because I do not allow them to buy me anything---they have to make it. I refuse to shop at Christmas.
It is a frightening thing that people can be manipulated so easily. We have been brainwashed into thinking that buying each other gifts is the proper way to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

The correct way to celebrate the life of Jesus would be to give away personal possessions of true value to those in need, wouldn't it?
Having your kids make their gifts is an excellent way to instill a sense of value.
Its much more difficult to give away something you put yourself into or value personally than to just buy something.

Careful---we are all starting to agree! JK
MM cant agree with you more. only one other thing to add. A person has really discovered something when then can give away that thing of personnel valve to another in need and then---- feel really good about it. As MM says that is true giving.
Merry Christmas all and Happy new Year

One of the things I do with my kids is take them shopping for the same stuff that I am supposed to get them as a normal part of parenting. It's the time spent together, casually strolling around the mall, that really counts for us holiday or not.

A very Zen approach, Denny. Ultimately, it is the abandonment of possession that brings total peace. But who the hell want to go on without all the stuff!?!

We all DO agree. Its just my passion for the subject that chafes people and keeps them from seeing the logic in my assertions.
If you go back and look at the substance of everything I've put forward (with the obvious exception of pointing out what a huge ***** Bastage actually is), you'll see its all for the enhancement of the Pettit experience, not the detriment.

I disagree! None of this is a "Zen" approach. Haven't you read any of his posts?

LOL. No, I meant the gift giving part! Not the ham-fisted, "Why ain't this thing carburetted?!?" parts.
