Hello Gents,
I'm planning on getting my car running again after 2 years (long story) and I'd like to send it somewhere to get all of the work done in one place.
I'm thinking Pettit, but I've been out of touch with the community. Is Cam still doing all things RX8? I want to have a new engine built (preferrably with custom lower compression rotors) as well as an overall assessment of what can be done to make the car more reliable, ie run cooler.
I'm thinking i'm gonna be in for @6k or less including shipping the car to Tampa from Wilmington, NC.
I need suggestions, to include a reliable shipping company.

Okay. That makes things easy then. Any tips on the exhaust? Looks like TurboXS is selling one with a cat and rp for a good price.

Pettit has a sweet one, Cams made alot of progress with the 8s. Your motor isnt blown rite? If not your not gona need much expensive stuff.

I also have an extra low compression motor I bought for $500 that I have no idea what to do with.
As long as Cam has tested his exhaust with the blower and has a good map for it i'll just buy his.
Has anybody come up with an elegant cold air intake solution? I don't like the filter just sitting in the engine bay.

Cam should have you covered there as well
unless you mean you dont like the AEM/MS intake where it is still in the engine bay
if so you can route the tubing over the frame and down in front of the radiator
thats what a lot of guys are doing now per Eric Meyer's recommendation...filter is sideways horizontally btw

Lots of things going on around this thread...sweet. Just got back from Homestead-Miami Speedway after 6 months of having my 8 mostly in storage. Just one autox in Nov. Running the 10psi pulley with Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors (4) in the top rail with AP tuning done by Steve Kan. No more running injectors at 90+ % duty cycle and the stock fuel pump never drops below 60psi. I have two AP tunes...one for 93 octane and one for 98 octane.
Electronics MSD coils with KB Boost a Spark and 10.5L 11.5T NGK plugs (.035 gap)...no misfires at 10+ psi boost and spraying whatsoever...EVER.
Stopped by Cams on my way to Homestead and he suggested making the cooling system a close one like on my FD (yes I do have a 93 FD daily driver now) by installing a 18psi reservoir cap/filling the reservoir to the top/and then installing a hose from the reservoir overflow nipple to a catchcan type bottle. Any suggestions/comments on this?
Also, not sure why my SC oil level goes down after every track session??? I have to add about an once or so after every 25 minutes of track time. No oil leaks (new pulley seal and stainless spacer) NO OIL LEAKS anywhere no smoke. Any ideas??? Oil leaving thru SC vent tube???
Also, I'm running Amalie semi synthetic 10w30 (free shipping for a case from their website) with a bottle of ZDDPPlus ZDDP Engine Oil Additive Zinc & Phosphorus. Temps were down 5~10 degrees than previously.
Anyway, keep the lines open and here is a short vid from Sat at Homestead

Mork and now Juan posting--its likes old times.
Mork--what i did was to cut the front bumper support in half horizontally to make room for a proper sized aem filter ( do NOT use K&N). Then just fabricate a system to go outside the engine bay. You can get the tubes from many different places--summit racing, Jegs, etc. It does make a very noticeable difference in iats.
Juan--I am not sure why Cam would suggest a closed cooling system. The only benefit I can see is that coolant is not spilled on the track? But, I have never lost any coolant anyway? IDK?
Concerning the SC oil lost. Do you lower the level for track use? I always do. To about 1/8-1/4 inch below the full mark. I always change that oil after every track w/e also.
Concerning the exhaust--I can tell you this ---after I made mine--there was a significant difference in performance.
I added a good merge collector to a set of tubular headers making it a little longer than the usual set of headers does, made a custom ( straighter) midpipe with resonaters that eliminated the choke point connector between the midpipe and catback and I used standard 3 bolt flanges.
I am still using the low boost pulley so I dont have to go with those garden hose injectors like Juan--lol.
I also have eliminated the SSV. The VDI has been long gone. My tune was not affected and the car runs better. I eliminated another source of possible trouble doing that.
Nice Vid Juan--car sounds fantastic.

The reason is to keep air from sipping back to the cooling system. As you well know air bubbles are no good. So, by filling the reservoir to the top it eliminates the possibility of air bubbles back into the cooling system...do you follow me? It is basically the same as the FD cooling system. The rx8 coolant reservoir will function the same as the FD air separator. Are you still following me?

Here is another vid from last Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway going 125mph on turn 3/4 and 135mph before turn 1 running Hankook Ventus RS4
I can provably push the car harder on corners if I was running race tires but I DO NOT feel like carry/swap tires. Besides, I run the car on the track for fun and to really enjoy the car capabilities without getting a speeding ticket. also, there is a lot to learn while at the track that comes second nature while driving on the street and highways no matter what car you are driving.

When swapping the RB mid pipe to Exoticspeed hi-flo cat/resonator the car is very quiet and no choking fumes from the exhaust. I can tell if it will pass NC emissions cuz we don't have those emission checks here in Floriduh.

I follow you about the closed cooling system Juan. Air bubbles in the coolant system are not good. Thats why I have always drilled my thermostat. It allows the air bubbles to escape more easily but what Cam is saying makes sense--I think?
You never remove all the air out of a coolant system---check this out http://www.google.com/url?url=http:/...01e9l7MvG01wtg
You can see the air still in the coolant flow.
What cap would then go on the oem expansion tank?
Tell me more.
Juan you have a midpipe catback choke point dont you? The racing beat catback can use the oem exhaust gasket? I have the RB catback also. I cut that point out of it and wielded the midpipe and catback together eliminating that flange.
Can you tell a difference between the 93 octane and the 98 octane tunes? What is the difference in the tunes--more timing?
Man that is a long straight in the vid--one with the banked turn---looks like a lot of fun. I kinda like that track.
