capping off the coolant hose...

the coolant flows from the thermostat housing, to the throttle body, to the rear iron.

I see what you mean!
I guess it would be a little hotter spot there, but I do know a couple of cars that done this years ago without a problem?
I will use mine Thanks for the motivation to look again.

Any hot spots you can remove (especially that close to the compression stroke on the already too-hot rear iron) is imperative on a car that will see track duty.

on the install instructions for the pettit kit, you just bypass the throttle body and connect the coolant hoses. Why would anyone block coolant hoses?

true-- a couple folks removed the line because they didnt want that heat around.
I never really saw a difference. This time i think I will route it a little different--just to clean up that spot.
Have yall seen the Hose candy that is going around---its pretty sweet. I may use some myself.

There is a fee for using this road of less than $10.00 (should be $7.00 but you know the park service). Very Scenic, very twisty and a good place to say good by to Las Vegas. The end of the loop is within 5 miles of the express way in case you are leaving after the cruise

End of WHiV4...Hope you all had a good time

PARKING
Orleans is providing an area that will be watched very closely in the West Parking Garage. We will be parking in the area where the executives of the Hotel park. Dang Phil---be careful and dont have too much fun!
I wish yall could come to the "Mitty" at Road Atlanta in May of this year.

Question guys-- does this engine use coolant that is on the way back to the radiator to cool the exhaust ports? That is a critical area and known weak areas of this engine (corner of the apex seal and the side seal spring) could use a little help there? Anyway to change the way it is now? Can we get cooler coolant to it?
It would be nice if there was a way to let the coolant exit out the rear of the engine and then all the return coolant passages now being used could be for fresh coolant directly from the radiator?

Moon --where are ya??

Had a great time at NASA FL Homestead/Miami Speedway yesterday and the car ran flawlessly. Tranny grind went away after changing the gear oil from Royal Purple to Redline MT-90.

Car ran a bit cooler than last month at PBIR thanks to my new secondary radiator. Coolant temps were 210-215F from 230F last month and same ambient temps. Oil temps were 245-255F towards the end of each session. Four sessions for a total of 98 miles around the track.

I was able to weight the car using a four wheel scale. Total weight 3327lbs with me in the car (175lbs) and a full tank of gas. I was not able to see each corner weight numbers but I was told the car was 50/50 and 99% corner coefficient perfect. The weight master asked “does the car have coilovers?” Yup! The he said “do not change a thing”.

Great Juan.
I see you are now addicted
Glad the secondary worked well for ya--oil temps are getting up there though?
Imagine if we could loose a couple hundred pounds.
How were your intake temps?
Dont forget to change the oil right after track--lots of fuel in it.
Cant wait to see your vids man.

I can lose a couple if I remove the passenger seat and rear seats but I rather not.

How were your intake temps?

My intake temps were 95-105F while spraying 50/50 VP Racing M5 using 100/60 meth nozzles. I’m going to change to 25/75 M5/H2O mix next time to see if that is what makes my engine run so hot. I got the feeling that the M5 might be the culprit.

Yeap, changing engine oil and oil pan goop cuz I got a small leak after installing the greddy oil pan for the second time.

Cant wait to see your vids man.
OD
Also, going to put a fresh set of Toyo Proxes R1R. Most people at the track run Proxes RA1 but I do have to drive the car to the track and I will NOT change wheels, period. My R1R are 140 tread wear while the RA1 are 100 tread wear. Also, the RA1 have a stiffer side wall but so far my R1R have done the job and are $75 dollar each cheaper than the RA1.

My HAWK HP plus brake pads are AWESOME! No brake fade at all, PERIOD. I already ordered a pair of rear slotted rotor because my current drilled/slotted rotor have small cracks around a couple of the drilled holes. BTW, brake rotors temps were 300-325F front/rear driver side and 400+F front/rear passenger side. The ATE Super Blue brake fluid performs flawlessly too.

Going to change my spark plugs. I use NGK 11.5 trailing 10.5 leading.

Going to change the belts and supercharger oil too. I use Royal Purple 50W.

Next road race is March 12 at Homestead. So I got 1.5 month to get ready.

BTW, what is the size of the supercharger big pulley number???

Here is the vid...last session and lots of errors but it was my first time at Homestead.

The large crank pulley is 5 inches, the standard top pulley is 3.25 inches.

nice vid---drove smart. Mostly really smooth and you were getting a little faster every lap.
Looks like a fun little track.
How was suspension compression coming of the highbank to the infield?
Hope I can make this with you in March. Its with NASA? All w/e?

Now some track hints from an old fool:
When behind traffic and unable to pass go ahead and upshift--save motor and decrease temps--you did that some already---great!
After the red convertable passed you? it looked you got to thinking " I am going to catch his ***"!
Dont do that IF that is what happened
Use the rumble strips more especially on the little S turn before the straight a way.
Looks like one turn may be faster using a double apex?

Once you get a little more experience then:
Big hint get 17 inch wheels or tires OR use a 35 size sidewall for the 18 incher. The RA 1's unshaved can be driven to the track and home--so can the NTO1's Nittos.
Better tires are the difference between night and day AND you will need to upgrade brake pads once your speeds increase ---and they will!
Better tires and gearing will make transitioning much better and acceleration out of the corners will be so much better.
Remember used race tires are great for HPDE folks like us and you can get a very good set for $300 or less. And you can rotate this type tires.
Yep I can see you would really like the 09 trans.
Makes me want to get out there again--even with a tired engine.

Norm, thanks for all the R&D technical data but over here at the Trial and Error department we like to keep things very simple thus our team motto "KISS". BTW, we are not talking about the 70 Rock Band.

Anyway, if some one can provide the T&E department with the BELT PART NUMBER will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

The Management

Excellent, some people lose it on turn 10 (one 350Z and one Corvette) but I had no issues with it.

Hope I can make this with you in March. Its with NASA? All w/e?

Sebring will be much closer (Jun 24-25) and more challenging than PBIR or Homestead. I only do a Sat or Sun cuz my pockets aren't that deep.

Now some track hints from an old fool: Correction...Devil Dog

When behind traffic and unable to pass go ahead and upshift--save motor and decrease temps--you did that some already---great!

Can't do sometimes cuz I have to wait for the ahead driver to give me a point pass. I'm in group HPDE1/2 and some of the drivers are very new to the race scene. Twice I had to pull into the hot pits cuz they are so tunnel vision and not aware of cars tailgating. Once I move to HPDE3/4 (hopefully in March) I'll be able to pass without having to wait for a point pass. Not been able to pass at will take a toll on our rotary engine high rev advantage and is aggravating at times.

After the red convertable passed you? it looked you got to thinking " I am going to catch his ***"! Dont do that IF that is what happened.

That is a supercharged camaro with an automatic tranny. The guy drives like a maniac and if you noticed is all over the track. I do it just to watch him make mistakes but I do stay in my lane.

Use the rumble strips more especially on the little S turn before the straight a way.

Rumble strips take effect on other parts of my anatomy.

Looks like one turn may be faster using a double apex?

I know what ya saying but I don't like to do the double apex thing.

Once you get a little more experience then:
Big hint get 17 inch wheels or tires OR use a 35 size sidewall for the 18 incher. The RA 1's unshaved can be driven to the track and home--so can the NTO1's Nittos.

Not when you have to drive 5 hours to the track.

Sorry DD but I will not change tires at the track or buy another set of wheels.

Yep I can see you would really like the 09 trans.OD
Don't tempt me.

What are people doing to keep the innercooler from freezing during the winter? Draining and blowing it out? Additives? I'd hate to find out the wrong way.All I've read is to use water "distilled I would hazard a guess" and a bottle of chill charger.

Lol-----rumble strips and parts of your anatomy. Too much info.
Dont like to double apex? Wait until you experience it properly done---you will love the corner exit part and maybe even how you can take advantage of the excellant trailbraking ability we have on corner entry! 1st time though it may make you a little nervous?
Tire changing is no big deal? You getting to be an old man or something? Heck it only takes about 10 minutes.
I see your sessions lasted over 20 minutes---we hardly ever get that with NASA up this way. Most of the time its actually around 15 -20mins-not counting flags/etc. What kind of speeds did you see? Mostley 3/4 gears? 5th on the banking straight?
I would like to do a track event with you guys, another member of our club has already done Sebring with his prepared 1st gen. Some other guys are interested also. Lets stay in touch on this OK?

Don't even feel rumble strips in ours

Last test day we went to that had instructors there:

"Right, you want to brake before the bump and turn in when you feel it"
"What bump?"

Homestead 105-110, PBIR 120-125 and Seabring 135-145.

Mostley 3/4 gears? 5th on the banking straight?

Yes

The bad:

Well the supposed oil leak from the greddy oil pan turn out to be a small leak from the engine. The leak is located right along (top part) of the spark plug side of the engine between the front housing and the front rotor housing. It leaks about one drop every minute while at idle and I noticed the leak since October.

According to Cam is either oil coming out of a known porous area around the dowel (defect from early renesis and mine is an early 2004 model) or a crack in the front housing. Either way, we won’t know until engine teardown. Other than that the engine runs great.

Engine will be pull tomorrow and at Cam’s on Monday for teardown.

The good:

Engine will be ported and rotors will be machined to accept 2mm FD apex seals.

BTW, no, no, no, no, no, no lower compression rotors will be used. No, no, no, no, super-duper apex will be used other that FD oem apex seals. No, no, no, no, no other modifications will be made.
