That is all my original comment ment....... I started out just joking around but you came off cocky..... Like the other guys said its cool what you are doing but, presentation is key.....

Presentation?
Zip ties are a problem?
This setup cost me only $1400 + the cost of Int-x, and it very well puts down 14# of boost, and then the Int-X shuts off the fuel. I bet the HP at that boost is well over 300, so if you ask me; **** yea zip ties add horsepower... I could care less what the damn insulation is held in place with, as long as it stays in place. I don't give a **** about what it looks like under the car. This is not a show car. This is a drive the **** out and enjoy the power car. For the past 2 weeks I have put 50-60 miles on this "piece of ****" daily, and I love it. I am no mechanic, nor a fabricator; this is my first take at this sort of thing ever. My welds are all crooked, it is held together by zip-ties, but I built it, it is my achievement and I am damn proud of it.
Presentation? Screw that, at least at this stage. I only care about the functionality. I post here because most of the people who come to this thread care about the same. This forum is called Major Horsepower Upgrades. This is for those who look for HP, those who like to drive the cars, not look at them. You want presentation, go to look at pics in Appearance and Body Kits or Multimedia and Pictures And next time you come and try to be all funny laughing at someone else's work, stop to think for a minute, and take another look around.

Ok with this out of the way, I'd like to get back to the topic please.

Just be careful running that much boost. You are probabaly getting pretty high on the injector duty cycle, and you wouldn't want one of them getting stuck open.
Also pay attention if you are running the stock fuel pump... it seems like it has a high and a low mode, and if you hit the low mode you will go lean. Watch the drive map (3500-4200) rpms very carefully. You can get a real glower of a turbo if you are not careful.

I wouldn't worry too much about presentation at this point, because once everything is how you want it, you can take it down and have the welds redone and everything brought up to whatever level of presentation you would like.

Oh no man, it only happened once. I was experimenting with the controller. Right now, my boost is set to 10PSI, and stays there. And even at that, in the first gear @ WOT, when the boost comes, it is frightening
And also, because of the tube length, it takes little time to fully pressurise the system, so other than in the first gear, the boost doesn't just hit. it comes on gradually. thus making the acceleration curve very smooth smooth. I can actually control how much boost I run at any rpm, by the throttle. the wider it is open, the more and the quicker the boost is built. It is very cool. Most of the time I don't even go over 5# when accelerating, as there is no need for more on the streets under normal driving conditions.

and a hell of alot more than $3000 too.

Did you buy all the parts, then proceed into uncharted territory, or just buy a kit and have it installed?

You just went out and bought your kit, anyone could do that and I'm sure there's thousands of other people with the same setup. But this guy designed and built his own unique setup and it works. That's impressive.

If push comes to shove, I like RP's blower, Rogonzas an Manuel's swap and GTAW's kit look and fab quality much better than that procharger thing.

300+HP is major for a 3000 lb 8. Try to drive one. I bet a well tuned 8 at 300HP will smoke that that thing too. If not from stand still then from a roll for sure...

But yeah, I see now. You have (if at all) a NA 8, you "contributed" 19 posts to the forums of which a 3/4 is probably crapping on others work and the rest is something about cold air intakes or brake squeals or something of that sort. You've probably never done anything to your car by yourself other than check the oil level or wash it.
Of course you'd never put this "piece of crap on your car", because it takes a bit more than bragging, to build something. And the way I see it, brag is all you are good at so far.
Wanna prove me different? Why don't you do something respectful yourself and then, show/share it with others. Don't worry if it doesn't come out perfect, people whose opinions do matter will understand.

For the love of god, if you do not have anything constructive to post, please don't post here. This tread is long enough as it is.

P.S
Yeah I get mad at people like you. Why? Simple, I am short tempered, and do not tolerate bullshit too well.

Does look like a nice install & probably goes like stink - we don't have that car here but to me it looks too much like a family sedan .

Just so you know I do have an 8, just bought it a couple months ago and yes it is still stock... The only reason I come on this sight is to investigate turbos and superchargers..

The GTo is mine and it is great in a straight line but sucks in the corners (that is why I bought the 8).. I did install it myself and had a great time doing it. Good luck with your build and I hope it ends up working well for you..... All my comments started because I wanted you to buy a hose clamp... If yur happy with it then thats all that matter.... Good luck...

I find Rotorocks custom build to be a very engaging project and in fact, it is the first thread I read when visiting these forums. I may not post here but I do enjoy to read about the daring projects these good people undertake and then have the courtesy to share here. When you critique these people in a negative way it is making their work seem less, and that is simply not right. Even if they were to do something as simple as replacing an intake, they should not be belittled for they have shared their achievement and you are richer for it. Rejoice in their accomplishment. Criticism should be given in a constructive manner, and if you do not understand why they did something a certain way, politely ask why and I will bet you they have a reason for doing it that way.

Rotorocks design is still in the running prototype stage and so is missing a few polishing touches here and there. This is the first time anything like this has been done on an RX8 (please correct me if I'm wrong) and so he should be given some repect for trying something so daring on his daily driver. The first car was an 8000 pound wagon that couldn't go 10 feet without tipping over for an example.

A FI renesis cannot match a FI LS2. A GTO with an upgraded suspension will not have the handling of a similarly equipped RX-8. Film at 11.

Anybody can buy a turbo kit(like myself) because its easy, but it takes a lot of guts to do a custom setup especially one as unique as yours. Thats why I take my hat off to you, don't worry about the negativity just keep moving forward with your setup.

He is doing something differnt but, as stated above it has been done before on other cars. He did not come up with the idea on his own...

skddmorse, you're missing the point! You're watching someone develop a custom turbo setup in his stare time. It's not a finished product. I compliment you on your supercharger install; its obvious that you put a lot of thought into getting those bolts tight. Now how much did you pay and how long did development take for a third party to supply you with the kit? Forget it; don't answer that. That Holden has been around for YEARS!

Rotorrocks, kit looks good. The only comment that I have is that you may want to consider reworking your exhaust. I would come straight out of the turbo with a single pipe exiting out of the drivers side stock exhaust tip and abandon the passenger side. Keep it there for looks only. This would reduce some of the funky bends that you have now. It may also free up enough room to add a resonator for the single pipe. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work.

Actually, now that I had replaced and reconfigured the intake tubing, put on good couplers, with stainless T-clamps, the need for resonator went away.

Yes it is slightly loud, but not louder than any other aftermarket exhaust, you see driving around.

If cruising, in certain rpm ranges I practically don't hear it. when under boost, the turbo spooling sound covers over the exhaust, and the only times the exhaust gets a bit loud is when I put some load on the engine and the turbo haven't yet spooled up. But that is what I hear from the inside, on the outside; people say it sounds awesome. So I am leaving it as is so far.

It works great. The only thing is like everyone else It looses power in around 7K RPM range and above that feels sluggish. When I have time, I'll start messing around with the APV settings. Hopefully that will help.

Some pics of my new pipes
I reconfigured the way the pipe runs, instead of going across and to the passenger side, it now runs under the driver side. There is no flattening of the tube, as this way I have plenty of clearance.
I Used Red couplers, as eventually the plan is to change all the hoses to red. (red on black looks real good in my opinion)

Also I put a sort of a silencer on the BOV outlet, to quiet it down a bit, as it is making too many high pitch squeaking sounds when I shift while not in boost. So I wanted to filter that out a little, as well as I built the second "Intake" thingy for the MAF sensor. With hope that it will help to quiet down the whistle of the oil metering pump intake and possibly stop the Traction control light that keeps popping up. (didn't help with the light tough) Other than that, everything works and runs great. I haven't had much time lately to do anything, as my wife is getting a bit pissed with me spending so much time around the car (given the fact that I am "finished" with the install)
So I need to take things a bit slower, or my budget will be cut So, I'll focus more on messing with the Int-X and tuning now.

It is not actually that close to the ground. in the lowest point, it is only about 3/4" - 1" lower than the exhaust bend. I have a couple rather large speed bumps in the parking lot where I work, but it goes over them just fine.

Man you need to lower the car more then Driving just isn't the same if you can't hit something every time you up a driveway or over a speedbump.
