What does yours do? I know when I had mine, I set the SSV to open just off idle, but the base program that it came with had the SSV open at 200 RPM.

Where in the Int-X do you adjust for the time when these items are opening? I suppose there are outputs dedicated to this, no? Thanks in advance.

Chris, you adjust the APV setting on the Int-X in screen 29 (aux output/input functions) on #11 (SHTRVL)

They should be set at 500 rpm. A part of me wonders if changing this value to say 1500 rpm would smooth out idle?

Thats great to know. Are you talking about the APV or the SSV?

That probably explains the common wandering idle problem seen with the Int-X. If the SSV is changed to say, 1200, idle at 800rpm should be ideal and nobody has noticeable boost before 1200 so it will not affect tunning. This great news for me . The APV remains under control of the PCM right or is it controlled by this same output? How come Dannobre says his APV stays open all the time? Thanks for the input.

Thats the SSV...the APV control is either the PCM or blocked open....I think the Motec is the only thing that has the logic to control it properly

How does the car behave when the APV is left open as in your car? How did you manage to keep it open? Sorry for all the questions but this is very important for something I am developing right now. Thanks.

That's the SSV, not the APV.

Yes. Personally, I think it should be kept closed until you are in boost, but it isn't wired in a way you can do that on the Int-X.

Scott could clarify what he does with the APV...at this point that's where I will leave it...

I think leaving the APV under PCM control is good because it extends the effective Ve peak of the motor. Having it open all the time in boost might push up torque below the peak a little, but having it pop open at the same time as the APV might cause a stumble.

When you say "it isn't wired" that way, Do you mean to say that even if you set this parameter to say, 1200rpm, it will ignore this an still be open all the time? Or simply that you can only open it based on rpm and not in MAP.

BTW this is very interesting guys.

Fair enough. Let the man be the one to reveal the information

One question though, how does the car behave at idle with the APV open all the time? Is it higher? Where did you set the opening of the SSV? Thanks in advance.

The SSV opens at the selected RPM, regardless of manifold pressure.

I haven't played with it both ways..I wish that there was a solution for controlling it in something other than the Motec ($$$)

I would think that it would be advantageous to keep it closed until boost,,,and then open...but the stock PCM seems to alter when it opens as it sees fit....not necessarily a good thing for tuning.

With it open...and the spooling characteristics of the turbo...seems to be OK as it is

I can't wait till the Ign solution is here...I want to see what that does to the drivability...mine was much happier around the 325HP range than above on the OEM coils...

Then why can't it be adjusted? Just input 1200 rpm and then it will open at 1200 rpm, correct?

I noticed this stuff when reading through the Int-X manual. It says in big bold print "not to adjust these settings or serious engine damage could occur!" I wonder what engine damage could occur by opening the valves slightly later?

When I was talking with Ray on the phone the other day, he noticed is engine was stumbling around at idle, and quickly got the CEL for his SSV valves not functioning. Turned out they were stuck open, which caused his idle to go a little crazy. So that gave me the idea of delaying the opening of the SSV valves until you out of idle, around 1200-1500 rpm, because you aren't making any power there anyways, so why no delay it? It should smooth out idle.

I wish I had my Int-X installed right now so I could test it out....

How is your idle with the SSV closed and the APV open at idle? Thanks.

Uh, read up a few posts.
I said I already had it configured that way on mine. It worked fine.

And your idle was improved? Hmmmm

So why does Scott set them to open at 500 rpm? Easier start-up perhaps?

He warns because Microtech warns. Its just a port from Microtech's manual.

Having it open off-idle didn't change the idle appreciably. I could get it to idle the same with it open or closed.
