I've also started researching if a hybrid turbo RX8 engine is doable, but for a racing application (I'm doing hillclimb races with my RX8).
I didn't get the time to read the whole thread here, but I did a mock-up using a renesis engine (pls ignore the porting or other details, this is just a test engine).

Here are some pics:

1. The black shade would be the exhaust port location from a 13b GSL/ SE housing

2. This is where the pp exhaust port is opening. The renesis exhaust port is almost closed.

3. Mid 13b GSL/ SE port opening. Overlap with intake ports is hugs and it's made worse due to the intake bridge.

4. Both intake ports will be exposed to overlap.

My personal conclusion: this kind of engine would be highly inefficient until mid range revs, due to the huge exhaust/ intake overlap. I think boost will be just wasted through the exhaust, due to the huge overlap...

For my application, I'm running a 5.8 diff ratio and using a Samsonas short ratio dog-box, top speed is around 118mp/h / 190km/h, so I might consider doing this, since it will make my life easier than having a REW swap. Still not clear if this kind of high compression engine will survive a hillclimb race, even at low boost.

the one thing he may have going for it is that it’s at least a big turbo (China GT45), but a bit dishonest in the usual youboobtube glorying about it like it’s his unique idea when it’s pretty clear where most of his ideas came from. He did get rid of the OE mount entirely, but I question if the two water pump studs that support the engine will hold, but if it holds then kudos for that. However, if you have the ear to hear then you can recognize everything I posted on the port timing/overlap issues.

Another one bites the dust; the hybrid build above recently bailed for a K24 swap instead.

I'm surprised Aitkins are buying into this tomfoolery !

Found this on a hybrid discussion on FB :
James Patrick111 : Good luck, everyone who builds one goes into the witness protection program when it's time to post results .
Sums it up quite well i think

and I’ll see your tit and raise you a tat

It’d be more accurate to state that you still haven’t figured out yet why you’re wrong. Which in all honesty a long time ago I’d have agreed on that point myself; neither knowing nor having perceived it at that time as well. What baffles me is that you’re still blind and deaf to the spirit, the truth of it, still to this very day … 🤔

then again, you’re the guy who claimed a person can’t know anything about anything without doing it their self first, or anything he can’t touch or see either. That may explain it then, or perhaps poetic justice however it may be.

I bet you think it’s just a coincidence even for a man to prophesy against himself, right? You likely continue in error not believing this as well; it’s no coincidence.

No, the truth is I’d give you the last shirt off my back if it comes down to it and you well know it. That’s just more refusing to come to the light lest your deeds be reproved. Nobody on here loves darkness more than you do. I not only love you enough to say so to your face; well knowing the hope and promise of it, I’m committed to make it manifest for any and everyone to see.

speaking of the darkness, couldn’t help but notice that the hybrid dyno video Kyle Mohan said was coming around the beginning of the year is still nowhere to be found. Care to make a gander on why that is? Because he seems to have had plenty of time making enough videos equivalent of running several dynos over the same period. My bet is the truth of the matter won’t help sell the idea to people who don’t know any better.

Couldn’t help but notice that one commenter asked him if it’d brap and his reply was no, it’s only street ported. It’s like he doesn’t even recognize that just adding the housings alone coupled with the unmodified Renesis primary opening at 3° ABDC results in overlap that only be matched by a 13B bridgeport. Even the factory Renesis secondary port opens earlier than a 13B extended primary port.

just as I’ve tried to share over and over again from several years back.
