I'm saying the Renesis is a unique engine that requires the equipment, experience and knowledge to achieve max performance and life from. The Mazda reman shop can't even do that great of a job of it IMO.

I have no doubt that you can put one together and think you did a great job. The heart of the issue is that you don't really know what a great job is. You only think you know what one is. Reading/hearing this or that, getting caught up in marketing schlock, making deductions based on theory buried under a blanket of assumptions without any comprehension of the real world results, etc. does not a great job make.

It's not just paying more. It's acquiring the value of extensive experience that you not only don't have today, but will likely never achieve in your own lifetime.

Back to the matter at hand........

I believe the huge compression loss i was seeing was do to the side seals being stuck in the compressed position due to being improperly cut.

Also I may be in the market for some new housings. I'm looking for an in-expensive place to pick some up.

Pretty much everywhere sells them for the standard same price.

There is a guy selling a brand new one in the buy sell thread though. You might be able to talk him down in price.

I had a plan for making that work but never actually saw someone do that. Since the s2 engines are failing I guess I lost interest in it.

What s2 engines are failing? I have only heard of two (both VR R3's oddly) and one was a rare E Shaft issue and the other was ran hard at the track with a bad cat. Both were covered under warranty and that was when we learned the reman plant could do S2 engines as well. The owner was pissed that he was not getting a new engine from Japan.

Yep do-able, even if you just want them for the lower price, currently S2 Rotor Housings are $200 each cheaper new, while old stock lasts, so just bung up the 3rd injector 'IF' you don't want to use them.

************************************************** ***************

DENNY...I have some news about the RED R3, do you still physically own it??

Why,......Well I have invested in the latest genuine tester (MMDS/IDS), same as what Dealers use...Now I am still learning, but, there is a way of testing each and every module, rather than the ''its your ECU/PCM which is kaput".

Mazda call it a "Network Test" which individually tests each model (in car) separately and will report on which needs looking at, from Door Lock Modules, Immobilizer, Instrument Cluster, ABS, ECU, TCM, TPMS, etc.

Obviously, I can not test anyones car long distance, BUT, I can send you a copy of the latest Mazda IDS instructions manual, which shows how to do a "Network Test".

I know you had it looked at by a Mazda Dealer & Paul (Mazmart), from memory?, so I ask did the Dealer perform such a NETWORK Test?

I am not saying this is the case, BUT, I have heard so many instances here where Dealer mechanics don't know how to diagnose a problem correctly and usually waits until a Mazda Field Rep can come in to test owners cars at a later date.
The Dealer leaves the diagnosis and prognosis up to the 'on road' Tech to tell them what to do and renew.

Pretty bad hey,.... PLEASE don't get me wrong I am not suggesting all Mazda Dealer Techs are like this, just many are lazy and don't want to learn or could care less...

IMO the old "fix it right the first time" is the best policy.

This has been bugging me for months about your R3, I still believe it is something simple, this Network Test could definitely narrow down the field of where, and can tell if it is a connector or wiring to 'a' module in some cases.

Ash

Hey ASH--no I sold it to Hoss! I KNOW he will appreciate this info. Again you are the man ASH!
With this info I know he can get this done and the mystery can be once and for all laid to rest.

LOL if i had known this car was internationally famous I would have asked more for it.
Hoss --you are going to have to send ASH a limb pruner-- I will half the cost with you...

I thought you might have...was not certain..

Anyway Hoss, here is a copy of Mazda latest MMDS or IDS instructions, only came out a few days ago, go to PDF page 78, this will tell the dealer how to perform a Network Test on all critical Modules..

I hope this helps M8..

Blast!! the PDF (4.78 MB) is too large to upload here, Hoss PM me an email address so I can send it to you.

Here is a screen-shot of Page 78, if you can read the modules on the left (abbreviated)...red marked.

06 - 07 Network Test

 Advise: You should confirm vehicle specifications when the IDS shows “Fail” as optional equipped modules, because sometimes optional modules may not be installed in the vehicle being tested. Network test is useful when you suspect there is a problem on CAN BUS line. You can narrow down failures by confirming the results of the network test. You can use the network test even though IDS cannot identify a vehicle automatically if you need to make IDS using manual entry.

page 79

06 - 08 Burglar Service Functions / Burglar Alarm System Operational Record
At the vehicle which has been fitted with burglar alarm ( contains accessory ), you can use this function. But, at some destination / part, you can't use this function.
Burglar service functions retrieve / delete information which is recorded in a BCM (RBCM[1]) as triggers when alarm sounded. BCM (RBCM[1]) sends warning request signal and records following informations when received signal from door latch switch, hood latch switch and the other. - Time [1] - Burglar alarm

81

06 - 09 Meter Warning System Operational Record
Meter Warning System Operational Recordes retrieve information which is recorded in a HEC (IC) when warning lamp went on / flashed. HEC (IC) puts on / flashes warning lamp or indicator lamps and recordes following informations when received request signal from ECU or switch.[1] - Time - Kind of warning lamp or indicator lamp [2] - Battery voltage
[1] HEC (IC) records these informations when the odometer is over 30km and engine is running over 10 seconds. And, If you connect the M-MDS to vehichle, HEC (IC) prohibit records. In this case, HEC (IC) will resume record after IG-Off.
[2] HEC (IC) does not record about some warning lamp and indicator lamp. We plan to insert object warning lamp and indicator lamp of record in workshop manuals.

82

06 - 10 Door Lock System Operational Record
Door Lock System Operational Records retrieve information which is recorded in a RBCM as triggers when door locked / unlocked. RBCM sends request signal to door lock actuator and records following informations when received lock / unlock signal. [1] (We plan to insert the detail of these information in work shop manuals.) - Time - Lock trigger [2] - Unlock trigger [2] - Output status of door lock actuator - Vehicle condition
[1] RBCM may record these informations before lock / unlock completely because door lock actuator take time to lock / unlock.
[2] If you lock / unlock with lock ****, “Lock trigger” and “Unlock trigger” shows “None”.

83

06 - 11 TPMS Operational Record
TPMS Operational Records retrieve information which is recorded in a DSC CM when TPMS set switch was pushed or TPMS warning light went on.
1. DSC CM initializes learning value and records following informations when TPMS set switch was pushed. - Time (M-MDS shows elapsed days) [1] - Value of odometer
2. DSC CM sends warning request signal and records following informations when DSC CM detects deflation of tire pressure. - Time (M-MDS shows elapsed days) [1] - Value of odometer - Vehicle velocity - Maximum vehicle velocity (Maximum vehicle velocity from deflation detection system warning to reset)
[1] The M-MDS will show “65535 days”, if DSC CM has not record these information. It is not failure.

The S2 pool is a significantly smaller percentage of the total RX-8 production volume

After giving it more thought Denny, I am not so sure S1 MOP Injectors will fit in S2 Housings..

These are pics of S2 Injectors which are not the same as S1...they don't use S1 vac (atmo) line or have check valves...I don't have an S1 Injector to compare..I guess thread in housing is the same?

Thread in the housings the same, you can thread in 6 S1 injectors, getting oil to the #3 injector is the challenge.

I came up with some solutions for it but they were very expensive.
