Hmmm, buddy leave the beers until after you're done with your car! Your first mistake is using the rx8 fuel tank, why the hell would you do this??? Put your stock tank back on, get a real fuel pump-not a bullshit one, a real fpr, a probably a new gauge, because if your seeing 120psi, something is seriously fucked up. END OF STORY.

My RX8 is NA, but after reading about fuel pump issues I'm thinking about doing the walbro mod to my oem fuel pump assy; mostly for peace of mind. I still havent taken my RX8 on a long cruise, but I do visit family in AZ from time to time. I'd really hate to get stranded due to a burnt out OEM pump.

Assuming I get a "genuine" pump (I'll most likely order from BHR to be sure) will I experience the annoying high pitch sound I've heard from some youtube clips? Or are these whiny ones the fakes?

Also, how well do universal fuel pump removal tools work? I found this one on
Amazon Amazon
that seems to have worked for one reviewer's mazda (unknown model.)

Buy a real Walbro Pump... Fuel Pumps Whine if connected backwards or if their about to crap out... I think I just got cheaped out with an Ebay Pump... Maybe the Fuel Pump Assembly Mod is acting up... That FP Tool looks like it will work Nines. Poor Man's James Bond is a nicer Term for my Build than some Hillbilly ****, dat dat dat dat dat's all folks! My OE Fuel Tank was Broke and don't Patronize my Build little People that prolly don't know their car's engine bay from their trunk and have never done any real work themselves or even changed their own oil kinda people lol, End of Story.

P.S. I joined this site so I can showcase my unique build not because I want to earn you people's respect but mostly for Help and Guidance with things from the RX8, I left the STARQUEST site cuss they are a bunch of Ubberly-Critizizing Chumps that could not repel themselves from Hatrid towards a fellow Car Enthusiast..

dude--amire your commitment to getting it done.
Now as far as the fuel pump is concerned...
maybe its not the pressure thats a problem but rather the flow? Are the gas lines off the star a bigger size/longer than from the rx8? Just a thought?
Also the 2009 and later rx8's have a totally redesigned fuel pump assembly. It has a denso pump in it and the entire thing is just better --have you considered that? Aeromotive also has a drop in replacement--many folks around here have problems with the walbros ( not rx8 guys).
would hate to see your hard work end up in flames.

Well that sucks about your stock fuel tank. I have a real walbro in my tank, it does whine a bit, not much because it's still in tank-but then again I'm deaf on the right side.... It's nothing compared to the external 044 that I had. No pumps are self regulated btw, the stock fuel pressure regulator is on the other side of which the pop off valve is connected to. I'm not sure you needed to melt the plastic valve though, I don't think you're going to raise the pressure since your NA. I'm going to also change out my Walbro for a more trustworthy Aeromotive 340l in tank.

Dunno about the Stock Rx8 Lines but it's possible the StarQuest Feed line is longer, seems the same thickness as the plastic nipple on the FP assembly... But that wouldn't Fluctuate fuel PSI I wouldn't think.. Maybe the stock fuel pressure regulator is clogged/dirty but why always high PSI when the Car is first started.. Like I stated before I did the Rx8 Fuel Tank Mod by melting the Pop Off Valve (What is suggested herre) and I bought a Ebay 255 lph In tank replacement Pump, MAYBE it's the cheap Ebay FP, like the Stock Rx8 Fuel Pump "Get's Weak" or something like that after a while right? So just to make sure I should buy an Aeromotive or Walbro or some other Trust worthy Pump to Rule that out in my equation in the near future..

What is the consensus on using an aftermarket Rx8 fuel pump? Would they contain the same weak pump as the stock part?

I was looking into this as a possibility and one of the brands (carter i think) claims to use turbine pump design vs OEM, but retain all other specs for pressure & flow. Although that could just be advertising. Any thoughts?

I'm running a Walbro from BHR. Works as advertised so far.

The OE pump is a turbine pump.

Carter/Holley/Airtex are "parts store" stock replacements.

Almost all of them are actually manufactured by the same Taiwanese company that makes the genuine Walbro pump.

As far as I can tell, the Airtex/Carter/Holley units are the same quality as the OE, just a lot less expensive.

Oops, pardon my ignorance. I've heard the OEM pump referred to by a different name, but didn't make the connection to it being the same type of pump.

I probably will go with the BHR walbro and do the mod on the pop off valve.

stop posting BS in RX8 specific threads, your RX8 drivetrain swap work is half-assed at best and most of the time you are fumbling around clueless. The same people you are attempting to belittle told you not to use that eBay pump. Just like every other time people here attempted to provide advice in advance you dismissed them, but then when the problems start you're running around like a headless chicken making a mess everywhere.

has anyone seen any weakness of the fuel pump on track. Not the starvation issues. Just possible not keeping up with the demand after a few laps?

If they are new they work fine for an NA car....after they are a couple of years old all bets are off

Not particularly, at least not when they work correctly in all other aspects.

Exactly why running 2 fuel pumps Popped into my HEADLESS Chicken-Head..... lol and seems to be working out for me afterall. Half *** is my middle name as long as it gets me through the Finish line, or to Point B. --My swap is Finished and Working real good beyatch so don't try N thrash it.-- All this Half assed work might seem "Inferior" to some of U hating Chodes on here (That spend too much time behind ur screen focused on this thread) but to MOST of the people on this thread especially, is far beyond their capabilities... Like I said before in my other thread, there is a budget here, I am Poor Man James Bonding this and I got my head right where it needs to be buddy, I am not covering it with a Paper Bag.

Half assed is ok when you dont have any other choice. Budgets are one thing..but doing it wrong because you are lazy or dont know how to do it properly is a shame...especially in systems that are safety related. This isn't directed at your build skills at all..more a question as to why you would consiously do it wrong when it doesn't cost more to do it right if budget is your limiting factor
