Is there a way to get off the ring with out the "special service tool"? My 2007 rx8 will not start and I was told it might be due to too much pressure in the relief valve. I dont know much about cars but, my rx8 was stored during the winter and now will not start. It sounds like it wants to start but just isnt going. Any ideas or suggestions? I just dont want to take it to a mechanic and be screwed on pricing.

yeah it's hard though. maybe you can rent/borrow one from autozone or something?

first, that is a very unlikely issue

second, it only needs to have a fuel pressure check performed to determine if there is any issue with the pump

third, there are a whole host of potential issues that might make an RX8 not start. Just throwing parts at it is likely to be both foolish and wasteful of your resources

fuel pump upgrade

i have read everything but cannot find the venturi mod. 1 person says heat the pop of to the venturi body OK, but someone else says drill out the venturi. how do i Simply modify the siphon assembly for greater flow ...please help tank is open

I put my car on dyno yesterday and discovered that I am running very lean from 6000 to 9000 rpm. Car runs fine if it wasn't for dyno I wouldnt have known.

I also decided to stop by autozone to check if there are any other codes beside secondary O2 sensor(running catless). It came back with ignition coil primary/secondary circuit fault codes:
P0351
P0352
P0353
P0354
Funny thing is these are not listed at all in RX-8 Technical Info (CEL codes, PCM pin list, collision guide) thread!? Besides I put new coils(BWD/Intermotor Ignition Coils from advance auto) and plugs in last year and car runs smooth, no misfires easy starts etc.

Car is 04 with 60k miles

either or---possibly both---misfire and lean. Misfire could be cause by lean condition, although that is not typical.
So go down the list--test the spark 1st , then test the fuel pressures.
One thing some people have started finding--since some of our cars are starting to show some age related stuff---check the alternator voltage. If it is low that COULD affect the fuel pressures. It is a possibility so while you are testing all the other things--check that also.

I'll start with checking the MAF output and getting new set of coils, ones I installed have life time warranty so why not.

any advice how to check the fuel pump performance at max output? where is the best place to tap in and what pis should I see?

Is is common for secondary injectors to clog on this car?

Never mind, I just read the whole thread. Had 164,000 miles on my original fuel pump. It was a breeze, heated up a metal ruler till orange hot almost, flipped the piece upside and laid it flat on it for a couple seconds, looks professional!! Thanks BHR!! AlsO, runs much better, need fp meter now!!

After my 1st tune with MM, my car seems to be doing the same thing and i have a walbro unit. It seems to choke at about 6000rpm...guess its time for a fuel pressure guage...and i should try to find a solution soon for that

Hi didn't really want to reignite an old thread but hey,My rex has a suspected fuel pump failure....when turning the ignition on the OE pump makes no noise,also disconnecting the fuel lines at the engine bay and getting my wife to turn it over for a split second throws no fuel out...All fuses are fine and looking at the electrical diagrams I'm getting 11.3 volts on 2 lives at the pump connector.Can I safely say its cream crackered? I've ordered a BHR unit that should be here on Wednesday and my Mazda garage has kindly lent me the tools required to change it.I've noticed people mentioning burning something and wondered if someone could be so kind as to tell me what page? I only have mobile internet which is slower than slow

Best of luck with the BHR unit. I hope you get a good one. Charles (BHR) gave me great customer service. I would recomend emailing him through his website if you have more questions. The part about "burning somthing" is metling the top of the the pop-off valve on top of the syphon stack. It is pictured with an arrow point to it (and other parts) on the first page of the thread.

The idea is that the Walbro unit produces enough pressure to overcome the releif spring which would cause the syphony not to function properly and would starve the fuel pump in short order. So, melting the top prevents the problem.

One last question,My white bit on top of the donut (which houses the pump) Has a crack in it.Will fuel come out of this if i was to fill right up? It's the highest point of the unit.Thanks

It could, but more importantly, it will mean the tank may not hold pressure and you'll throw the same emissions type code you would if your gas cap was bad. If you have to use it, I would try a good gas proof glue/sealer to keep it air tight.

Thanks, I ran it down the road today with half a tank and it was ok.Threw no Codes or CEL. Have used quicksteel to repair and have ordered a second hand complete unit (minus pump) that way if i mess up the BHR fitting i have a spare unit try again.Just nervous about melting that part! Has anyone got a pic of their bit melted?

my walbro gave up on me today, fuel pressure dropped and the car died.

it was only 3 months old, less than 10k km on it.

so i bought a walbro pump online for 80 bucks because my pump is slowly starting to go. I haven't installed it yet because i saw somewhere that it will bog down the engine at low rpms because it provides too much pressure. Is this true or should i go ahead and do it?

The RX8 fuel pump assembly contains a mechanical fuel pressure regulator that prevents the system from being over pressurized. It is designed to maintain an approx 60psi of pressure to the fuel rail.

Fuel Pump

I had two replace ment OE fuel pumps. 3 failures. I now have a Denso fitted and it also delivers noticeably more power at top revs< obviously getting more fuel through. Noticed the difference when I drove away after it was fitted. Rotomotion in Maddington Western Australia look after my RX8
