I'll look for them, I don't think its a dwell issue.

After re-gapping the plugs it only happens very seldom and only in 4th gear and up. I noticed that during it my A/F dumps below 11. So Im just going to wait on it until we can finish tuning, and not romp on it.

Looking for some input.

Couple days ago I started getting hard hot starts, and white smoke out of the exhaust. Long story short Cam recommended Porosity tabs, after I used the tabs smoke went away. Now today the smoke seems to be back. I realized my hard hot starts where a tuning issue, and is all straight now no it starts and runs great but I am still getting white smoke. I have not driven the car at all, Cam recommends I put 100 miles on and see how it effects it.

Stats;

Coolant system pressure test held firm at 20 PSI both cold and Hot
Oil sample sent to blackstone today for testing contaminants.
Plugs cleaned

Idle Log
A/F 14.41
STFT range;.24-1
LTFT: 2.97 (constant)
MAF; 5.5 g/s
MAF; 1.23V
Ign Tim Sep; -15 degrees

Only thing out of the ordinary is LTFT, other than that the car runs great!

Here are the idle videos, the after video its faint but you can almost here what appears to sound like deep puffs (you can notice when the smoke is abruptly pushed away)

How much premix are you running and what type? Also what midpipe do you have? Does the exhaust smell sweet? Burning oil has a distinct smell but it can be white as well.

4 oz protek premix, and SOHN running protek. Exotic Speed midpipe.

From what I have seen its not a lot of smoke, and I have never smelled burning coolant so I can't tell if it is.

Yeah, it does not smell sweet at all, It burns the nostrils, smells dry. Hard to describe, made me light headed with just a little bit.

Hope that helps

Some like that when it's warmed up too? It might be too much pre-mix. Have you tried just a regular tank of gas?

Not yet, I will next fill up, it goes away after a while too.

Drove it to work today; 5 miles and when I got there and let it idle for a bit the smoke was gone.

Im chalking it up to a lil rich, and premix.

When you say 4oz, you mean to a tank?

Misfire Subsidiary

Instead of making a new thread I am hopeful this one gets enough attention to help.

Been suffering a misfire since my rebuild, at first it was audible during 4th gear and up pulls only over 7K RPM under WOT. No flashing CEL no codes, just audible popping noise.

I re-gapped plugs and reset NVRAM, this solved the problem for a couple days then it returned.

Next I pulled the wires off the trailing plugs, to ensure that the leading coils are in good working condition. Car fired right up and idle was normal, so I do not have a leading plug problem. Also re-gapped a little lower as was recommended by Cam at Pettit.

So now the popping noise is gone but my new symptoms.

Only happens in 4th gear and up; Runs really rich at 4K with 20% load, 11.4-12 A/F If I let up the throttle the needle will spike down to 10, sometimes it will also cause a flashing CEL. No noise, no hesitation just a flashing CEL. I noticed my cruising A/F is more around 13.4. Doing logs my ignition separation goes for -15 to +5.

Running BHR coils (on OE Dwell), NGK plugs Gapped to .033, 93 Octane fuel W/ 4 oz Protek-R per tank, SOHN adapter with protek-R reservoir OE OMP rates.

Also want to add, I know 14.2 is peferct for little load and cruising, for an NA 8.

What is considered to rich, what is considered to lean?

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Go!

At cruise with low load, you should be close to Stoich. Have you tried not using the OE dwell (see timing thread)?

14.7 is what you should see at cruise.

Thanks Scott, and the SARX crew for mocking this up.

Yeah, Im gona run to party city, they sell it for the same price as amazon and I don't have to wait till shipping.

I fixed one vacuum leak last night off my VFAD nipple, but I can still tell I have another one somewhere. Progress is progress i suppose.

Guess this is what they meant by projects are never finished

At this point its honestly just a ton of little things here and their, nothing that prevent driving oe is giving me complicated issues, just things that take time.

Sometime these cars turn into moody little b*tch's and mines on a streak!

Nope, and changed dwell and have not had a misfire issue yet, but it is running rich and will stall after cruising and coming to a stop so I know I still have a leak somewhere. It fires right up every time though.

First fogger run showed the MAF sensor was leaking in the AEM housing, need to fab up a canister before the nozzle as I am having the same problem of excess fluid in the fog lines.

Hopefully get this all straightened out this afternoon for some weekend fun.

what did you change in the tuning to improve the starting?

what do you mean fog lines?

what are Porosity tabs?

are you sure the white smoke isn't condensation or something to do with the air pump.

told you the dwell would help!
