no, you didn't get my point ...
hmmm because you aren't getting my point.
The MAF literally sits 2 inches above the E-fan. This is prematurely heat soaking the intake pipe and MAF sensor.
If the fans were not blowing on the MAF and intake piping they would just be getting ambient temperature heat soak. Which would take place at a much slower rate.
Bottom line the fans blowing 170-180* air onto the MAF assembly and housing is increasing the temperature at a much faster rate than they would read if it were picking up ambient temps
Who knows maybe I am wrong... We will get all sorts of data for the haters and see how it compares.

if you intend to prove the haters wrong then you might at least want to insulate that tray so that it doesn't act like a satellite dish re-radiating concentrated heat loading onto the MAF housing ...
too bad Einstein isn't around any more to get some physics 101 schooling ...

Here are some intake wrap links:
Insulating Your Air Intake. - FSB Forums
Heat Wrap/ insulate the intake tube? - MY350Z.COM Forums
"How To" Insulate Intake Air Tube, for more power? - MX-5 Miata Forum
Insulating the intake seems to have at least some effect.

Thanks Scott, Glad you like it now go get it installed.
LMAO Yea one of the nicest builds on this forum in a long time, forget the fact that I'm using a GT3076R, is just for show
It's in the multimedia forum because it contains a lot more than just a turbo build, and it contains a lot of media, as in pictures, that's where a build thread belongs. But I guess Joel's car is just for show too since his thread is in the multimedia forum too.
Don't take that as me being offended, I couldn't care less, I just think you make some pretty stupid comments.
I made one for Scott and Sifu, I actually have one more that's all welded up I just need to finish it.

is that any less ***** than taking everything literal and personal rather than as a friendly jab or even just blowing it off entirely?
I look for performance threads in the performance forums, but I suppose that's ***** too.
Hopefully you don't take Mr Pieper's posts so literally

In the mean time I'd like you to try and experiment. Get a heat gun point it at a pipe turn it on, wait 5 minutes, take a surface temp with an IR laser.
Take a pipe of similar size and material place it in a preheated oven at 180* for 5 minutes take a surface temp.
You might be shocked...
I actually really like your idea on putting a heat-shield backing on the part. A guy could even put it on the bottom of the tray and then paint the tray what ever color he wanted.

That sounds dangerous,
I installed the Denso race plugs (RX8 trailing and FD RX7 leadings) that I got from sparkplugs.com and the car runs much better, the ngk's were pretty carboned up from running so rich for so long.
