I'd agree with that. I'd be more curious about what the air temps are after the intercooler and that should be more important. If you're able to fit a good enough intercooler, the temperatures can be pretty close to ambient temperatures.

Also, having the IAT sensor pre-turbo doesn't help reveal if there's heat soak going on with the intercooler. It may be sufficient for a few pulls back to back, but you may run into issues with more continuous (track) use. I'd imagine 9k's setup is sufficient and probably makes the increased IAT's before the IC rather insignificant.

The ecu wants to know air temp as it enters the intake system - past there ???? . I believe if you have the IAT sensor in the correct location then the IAT temp. compensation table can be left as stock rather than do the modification that many people do .

I get my daily fill of reading ignorant opinions on the forum, thank you.

A remote IAT sensor should be mounted and wired just prior to the TB. Otherwise heat soak is generally an idle/slow speed issue. Even if you shield whatever from the direct radiator fan flow it will still eventually get hot. An intercooler provides little assistance then as well. It is just slowly getting hotter too under this condition. Even my mousetrap heats up if left idling while hot for a long time. The accordian, TB, UIM, and LIM are all still getting blasted then too. There is only so much you can do ...

As much work as a V-mount setup is in the RX-8, the payoff in benefits justifies it IMO

that is true. I have also found that given enough time--the engine itself will actually heat the intake pipe also--it is bolted on to it
You can always add a w/m system, but then all those complexities have to be addressed too.

because I have not yet ventured into the world of boost or engine tuning (that is soon to change)...how crucial is say 15deg in IAT?.....is it equivalent to say 3HP?

Considering we spent 4 pages on this already I assume it equals 30 whp.

i have never actually seen a proper v mount in the rx8.
I am sure there is one out there--i just havent seen it.
The only advantage that I know of is that it takes the intercooler away from the radiator. I guess that would also allow for a bigger intercooler--but air supply to that intercooler would be a challange?

already have

in summary: hot radiator air out the bottom, hot intercooler air out the top, small percentage of incoming cool air diverted along both both sides of the engine ...

Mount the radiator to the roof and call it a day.

Mainly because I still don't know what direction I'm going to go in. Having you guys discuss all these plans and cooling fixes doesn't help much either.

If you're going to do that, you need to do some wind tunnel testing to get some downforce.

I've seen that done with an intercooler in a rotary sand rail. Was pretty sweet but also very huge! haha
