Mostly for the sake of convenience (muffler was already installed) and $$$, but also because I still like the Tanabe's look & sound (not too loud & nice deep tone, not ricey) and the fact it is practically brand new, I hadn't put that many miles on it. Trust me, I definitely wanted to go with dual Burns Stainless 2-Stage mufflers...maybe someday...

Actually, no. Everything just fit/cleared perfectly. And yes, there's still plenty of ground clearance believe it or not.

You did place the undertray back on, right? Did you vent it?

Uh yep, the stock under tray fits with this configuration, that was the first thing I checked.
But the stock one won't do, I'm having a sturdier custom unit fabbed out of steel that will also be specifically tailored/engineered for high speeds.

A rear diffuser is also in the works. Dunno how "functional" a carbon fiber bolt-on production unit like the one offered by RE-Amemiya is yet, so I'm also looking into having a custom aluminum or carbon fiber one made...we'll see...$$$ is a huge driving factor here as usual.

Application specific carbon fiber production option:

Non-application specific carbon fiber production option (to be modified):

i was looking to do about 500hp myself. i know most say that you only need about 280-350 and there fine but i looked at it this way im already invested. plus knowing that there arnt really many 500hp rx8's rolling around feels good but even better when a m3 pulls up and i can pay it no nevermind because i already know whats sup.

U plan on running the 8's transmission, with the spec stage 3 clutch with this step.

Yeah, for the time being the 6-speed with the SPEC Stage 3+ is what I'm currently working with for this project. It's definitely more than adequate for my proposed power/torque level.

don' use that 2-stage muffler unless you want excessive backpressure and the source for those is Coast Fabrication

Dunno yet, I've only seen it up in the air and it's still at their shop getting the IC piping and throttle body installed. The flange where the solenoid is actually mounted to can be rotated so if the clearance isn't practical I'll rotate it up wards.

I know of some daily-driven big turbo Supra guys running those mufflers rave about them which is one reason I was interested in them. Anyways we'll see, it won't be anytime soon that I'll be in the market for new mufflers.
thx 4 the heads-up Team.

I run the standard 1-stage mufflers on my NA car, a bit loud but not obscene, get a lot of compliments on the sound from other competitors. The turbo will help you even more so stick with the standard plus you will need the flow. Get the stainless scrubble packing at a minimum for a rotary app, but the stainless mesh option will last a lifetime for a small penalty in weight and sound. Use the largest OD and length possible for the lowest sound output

Great build. That exhaust work is beautiful. Are you planning for the Texas mile next year?

how are you handling under body airflow? Are you going to blend in the gas tanks with underpaneling?
Some really sweet work going on.
Upgraded oil coolers?
pop off windshield washers? Lol.

IC piping progress. The dual 50mm Tial Blow-0ff valves will go on each side of the IC just before entering the engine bay. Air-filter will go next to the cold side inlet pipe.

Progress photos of the custom 80mm throttle body conversion to standard throttle cable.

Appreciate the suggestions/advice Team!
