Here's a short clip of a uphill pull. Watch the clock looks like about 5.5 seconds to get her into 4th gear.

I am in no way here to knock the swap. I am very happy to see rx8 developments and look forward to more. I dont disagree with the cost of 15k for the swap, im sure it took a lot more time and knowledge than what you charged. And an R.E.W. motor is the best choice which opened this guy to a whole new platform of performance.
Okay i have some questions i would like answered.
first off, love the swap congratulations on a hard task completed. Beautiful that you got all the factory features functional. I am quite jealous as this was the original route i was going but had gotten a lot of obstacles tossed at me during the process.
One of the main issues i have is hooking up a pre obdII motor & computer to an obdII vehicle. Does this car have a check engine light on? If not, great , however, how do you have an emissions inspection on the car here in the states where a plug-in to the vehicles port is necessary. I dont know how they do in CA; if its just a dyno test where the check engine light is not a factor, per-say, then your local shady mechanic can perform it. However, New York, amongst other states must get connected through the port to read the Vehicle Identification Number & to check monitors. If this was overcome with your swap, i commend you greatly. If it wasn't accomplished, well, the vehicle would go useless on the street because after 2 years without a vaild NYS inspection, your vehicle can no longer be registered, and be off the road

What I am saying is that I could beat any obd2 test. This is how you set the new engine up.. If the car is somewhere where you need to plug in. Then I would make sure the obd2 system is running 100%. I have done this many times with late model Protoges. That were running this test.

what type of transmission did you use? 93 tranny or rx8? please let me know ASAP in a PM or on here i am currantly undergoing a 93 motor swap and dont know if a 93 tranny will fit perfectly with where the stick shift goes in the cabin. please if someone can answer this concern i will greatly appreciate it. -chris

thank you i appreciate the feedback. do yu know if the turbo2 tanny will match up better? im sorry im not exactly sure how to look up the lengths of the trannys and what type of fitments everything will make.

Also, depending on where you are, who you know, and how much you want to spend its not too hard to "pass" an emissions test regardless. Smog guys don't normally make a lot of money... just saying.

I've seen guys bolt a 91 Turbo II tranny right up to the renny and the shifter has sat maybe a inch farther back than a stock 8 tranny. I wouldn't see why bolting a TII tranny up to a 3rd gen motor would be any different.

That's what I was going to do, but if you take a look under the car and picture it you'll see that the oil pan will not pass forward because of the subframe-unless you want to cut that(which I doubt). You could use the rx7 tranny and make a slightly shorter drive shaft, and you could bring the whole shifter mechanism more forward if you have the transmission disassembled and know what you are doing.

will i have better luck getting a turbo2 tranny or cutting the centerconsoul back a little by 2 inches? or if i pop in the motor n tranny willl the 2-2.5in backset be a big problem when shifting? please help with a personal input as well. i dont have money for a 09 tranny.

would it be possible to just cut my center consoul back by 2 inches where the shifter should pop up and then just costomize the circle where the boot will sit? maybe use some fiberglass?
