ON Replacement Satin (metallic) console panels

So I received a free car deodorizer thing and without thinking just threw it over my stickshift. After a couple of days of using my bike, I hopped into the car today to discover the stupid thing had eaten into the satin chrome part of the panels on the driver side of the console.

Does anyone know if I have to replace the whole console or can you buy just that portion of the panel? I'm sooooo pissed off - I keep my RX-8 in immaculate condition and I didn't even think about something like this happening.

Rotary FX has this http://www.rotaryfx.com/product_p/int1029.htm but it won't work because I have heated seats and no navigation panel in the console.

Any help would be appreciated. I have even thought about having the decals that are applied to the outside of cars (advertising type) done on the interior but have no idea if that would work.

I've seen several people on this board cover theirs with a high quality vinyl "sticker" because theirs was scratched up. The entire length front to back, both sides. The thread is floating around here somewhere. It has pictures and, I thought, it turned out pretty darn nice. You choose the finish/color of your liking.

Pretty sure they're not sold separately. Might find one on eBay or a junk yard.

I'll keep checking - I usually skim the forums for awhile and always find my answer but I am literally freaking out so much that my knee jerk reaction was just POST and hope for an answer. I have checked in on some of the wraps...I guess that would be a way to go.

Thanks for the info firebirdude!

I know I've seen others too. I remember one that was a solid gunmetal color...

That sucks! I've heard of it happening before though. Most any car air freshener will do that to any interior paint job. So tell all your friends. Especially those liquid ones that you're suppose to clip on your air vents!

wow, i did not expect that would happen either..

i would go the vinyl route, atleast you can choose youre own color now. I cant tell from the picture but make sure it is flat and it didnt etch away at the plastic trim, you may need to whip out the sandpaper.

theres also something called "Water transfer printing", or "Hydrographing". You basically ship them your piece you want coated and they dip it into a tub of water with a special water soluble vinyl which sticks to the piece. Ive seen a blueish cf vinyl applied onto a engine cover using this method and it looked fantastic, alot nicer than any hand laid vinyl ive ever seen.

apparently you can even do it yourself if you have the materials.
