why would someone buy this??? behind the gauge pillar is the freaking AIR BAG!!

argh...can't get this image of a face full of gauges outta my head!

Seriously, though, it seems to be targeted toward the show car crowd. Not sure that justifies, though.

 

The air bag is not in the pillar. It is in the headliner and drops down in front of the side window. They only placed the SRS logo on the pillar

 

Uh, Nemesis8, did you want to check that? During the install of my Compustar alarm, the installers ran cables behind the grey plastic of the pillar. When they pulled back on it, there was an airbag unit within.

When you say headliner, are you including that plastic cover that runs parallel to the pillar?

 

Here is the location of the side curtain airbags. Item number 4. You can use the lower portion of the pillar, just like the Mazda North American Operatons boosted car at Sevenstock did.

 

there are 8 airbags, so yikes!

1-Drivers Front Side in Steering Wheel
1-Passengers Front Side in Dash
2-Side Air in Seats
2-Curtain Air in Headliner

 

While there might be two more bags in the rear headliner, they both activate as one big curtain. So, yes you are right if we count each bag deployed. I was counting each control module.

 

Actually, isn't there airbags on the A and C pillars? That's why there are marking on those 2 pillars saying "air bag"?

 

Then how do explain this gauge pod? The markings are only to show general location. They are not directly over the top of the bag.
