Just bought a voodoo piano black shift **** put it in and ive seen a lot in other 8's but below the ball is that little lip is there anyway to get the stock shift boot over the little lip so just the ball of the **** is showing

 

it wouldn't stretch upward?

 

the boot will go upward but if u feel like the top it has like a metal or some sort of hard ring at the top and the opening is smaller then the lip so the boot wont fit over, im wonderin if theres some way to take out the ring at the top without making a mess of things

 

pop out the console and see if you can take it off.

there is a ring in the top of the shift boot that is preventing it from going up any further. this diy shows everything and go to step 9 to see the ring i am talking about https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-shift-boot-change-139430/

 

You can take the ring out a believe.
