MP3 player not working?

Hello! I finally got my RX8, second hand, and though I'm still learning it, I have to say I'm very happy with it

One thing I am having trouble with is the mp3 player of the car.

After seeing this thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/2007-mazda-rx8-mp3-player-question-157630/

I used the burner suggested in this thread but the player still won't play the CDs. I have burned MP3 CDs uing this program, moedia monkey and the Windows 7 default writter and none ofthe 3 CDs work in the car! I have also burned normal audio CDs to see if the MP3 logo on the panel was lying and still nothing. The car is 2004 make.

Any suggestions on how to make this work? Thank you all in advace

Does it play as if the CD has 1 long blank track on it? If so then you don't have an MP3 drive.

No, I put the CD in, the screen sais "CD READING" and it flashes that message for a while, then its sais "CD OUT" and spits the CD out. It does that for both mp3 disks and audio disks.

I guess its possible that someone swapped out the HU for one without Mp3 ability and kept the faceplate, im not sure, but i think some of the 04's HU's were not compatible with the grom or audioxlink or whatever.

I bought a grom for my car and its great, read a guide and followed it step by step how to remove the dash with my laptop in my car in freezing weather. It took me a while to figure out how the plugs unplugged from the HU in the back but its worth it. I didnt bother doing anything fancy and just ran the wire out the "plug" hole by the cup holder and ran it under my silver trim. I have a custom made phone holder that attaches on the side of my ashtray and the wire stealthily comes from behind it from the trim and a power supply feeds the bottom.

Plug your phone/mp3 player in with the 3.5mm jack, plug in the power and turn the volume up!

Thanks for the replies.
I played a non-burned CD and it played it with not problems, which makes me wonder, does this mean that its actually not an mp3 player after all?

Not sure if any 04's came with the MP3 ability now that I think about it. The 04's and half the 05's lacked several features. Satellite radio as another example.

The ultimate test would be finding a friend who owns an RX8 and has successfully played an MP3 disc in his headunit. Then take that exact same disc out of his headunit and insert it into yours. If it plays, then you know it's your burning methods that need changing. If it doesn't, well then...

Before I replaced the stock bose head unit, I had no issues playing CD's burned using Windows Media Player. This was in a '04 as well.

you replaced the HU? well maybe you replaced it with a non mp3 ability HU?

either way, just buy a grom for 80 bucks and stream internet radio like a boss from your phone. Easy fix. Make sure you check your HU version.

My 04 has the MP3 6-disc (before I replaced it with aftermarket navi)

Hi, I have a 04 RX8 with the single disk HU, which jumps when you hit any small bump! Does the new MP3 HU have the same issues. Just thinking of upgrading at some point and don't want the same frustrations
