Talking just got the xm / ipod hook up

i love it. however, i dont think the installer really knew what he was doing because the xm does not show up in the display area. he had to put an xm unit in the glasses case so i have remote for that. but it sounds so much better than running the xm through a radio station. my car came w/ sirius but i am an XM girl, gotta have my golf and baseball.

Just noticed this thread.

Will this work with all firmwares? Or do I have to pay the $50 to update

This question has been asked at least 4 times and I don't believe there's been an answer.

I guess this item will slowly die. More and more of the auto makers are integrating the iPod. All Mazda's for 07 will have this in the vehilces. Different news sources are saying will be installed as a dealer option. they dont mention the display, but unless this comes out in the next couple of months, this is essentially dead as an after market option.

If I have to wait longer, then I will buy the Mazda one.

I didn't want to give this info up cuz I didn't wanan cause false hopes but I talked to my source and here's an update

Rumor has it that there are TWO units being developed. One from mazda and one from an aftermarket company.

Here is the info I got.

"I wish I had more...there are two units on the horizon...we are waiting to source both...I can't say more since I haven't spoke to the manufacturers this week.

... one is 3rd party, one is from mazda...as you can guess one is probably going to be much more expensive for the consumer....we shall see."

Thats all I have to offer.

Also, why would this unit die from Mazda? Why wouldn't they make it. The company (like most) is in business to make money. Why in the heck wouldn't they develop it to sell to people with prior 07' vehicles? There is obviously a demand for it, which is undoubtedly what spurred their thoughts on direct from factory integration.

Just my two cents!

Its a shame too, the waste of money, because if they came out with this product about 1 month ago, so many people would have jumped on it, now that apple has made an official announcement im sure that mazda will start to make kits for older cars or apple will themselves. Now they will probably rush the kit and it will still have some kinks in it. Id just wait for the factory one if I hadnt already bought a D.I.C.E. kit. It doesn't display the songs, but whatever, if I need to know what song Im listening to that badly ill just look at the ipod.

Are you anticipating that Mazda will offer an upgrade that you can purchase for an older car? I don't think I've seen a thread on that.

I guess I am making an assumption. One article noted that this would be a dealer install. My assumption is that we could buy it through the dealer.

The solution from he dealer will almost certainly NOT be integrated into the NAV screen which is the holy grail for iPod integration.

I have had my Neo interface for over a year now. It does not use the mazda display, but the sound is really good. It would be nice to have the mazda display working, but I can live without it.

I just got my Audiolink also. Super fast shipping is right. I didn't know about the club discount The install was not too bad, it was just finding that damn "hidden" screw that holds the radio in. It took me a while to find it. But after that it was easy. I brought the wires thru the center console so my pod will sit in the cup holder. Sounds amazing. Wish it had the display but, beggars can't be choosers. Peace.

Yes, there's a discount, i can't recall the code, i think you type rx8club on the check out box and you get a discount. hahaha, that hidden screw is a bitch to get out, i have big hands so it was difficult to get to it. installation was plug and play very simple and the sound is awesome.
