Like it or not, USB means extra work, extra cost, etc. Don't start piling on extra requirements now, we want him to finish this thing some day! In the development world we call this "feature creep." Stop the creeping!

But getting back to topic, OverLOAD, are you able to share how things are progressing? What has Dension brought to the table? I am skeptical of a company that waits on its laurels and then punces when a grassroots movement gains momentum. Can you share anything? A PM would suffice if not.

CJ
To be brutaly honest, and give Dension the opportunity to respond in an open manner. Dension has offered to help in many areas, but have not followed through.

They are offering to build a metal enclosure for the unit, for a good price, but we've left this alone for the moment sice we have other ways around this. In the future it would be nice.

They want to help us more fully integrate this unit into their product lines and to align it with their units. That's ideal, but not necessarily what is best for the unit. There are definately parts of our design intent that conflict with their existing offerings, such as the icelink for the iPOD and our internal iPOD connector.

The biggest stalling point is the connector. When they initially contacted me, the connector was the key for them to get on board with us. Somewhere along the line, we though that Mitsumi would get us the connector, as they agreed to it, and when they reneged on their offer, I again asked Lee for help with the unit. He wants one of the few connectors that I do have, to look for an equivalent.

If he really was serious with this, he'd go buy a tape module and use that connector for comparison, since the Mitsumi connector is only close to what we want, and not the 100% perfect connector.

I am open to working with them, but so far, it's only been spiritual support, since we really haven't gotten anything positive out of the relationship except offers for future help, in exchange for an 'in' on our product.

To be fair to Lee, I would probably try the same thing if I was in his position. However that hasn't helped us to progress any further. We need real solutions to the issues that remain in the face of mass production.

Regards,

OverLOAD

I just looked at the site, and I'll save overload the trouble. Unfortunately, it has an illustration of what appears to be the right connector, but next to it, it says:
"There is no known connector that fits this."

There have been other discussions on the other thread with a similar goal as the auxmod, to ifnd that connector, and one individual stated that it was an AMP connector, but would be buried amonst the thousands of connectors that they make.

Anyone with connections to AMP?

Doesn't the site http://miata.fosketts.net/audiopins/ atleast have some other useful information?

For eg. the resistances required for the different Steering wheel controls etc?

Man I wish there was some way to source this stupid connector..!

It doesn't appear, at least from what is listed there, that the steering wheel controls are the same. I have both track up and track down buttons on the steering wheel of my 8 (I assume Bose and non-Bose are the same in this respect) whereas the referenced site just has a "track" button. So who knows if the other stuff is the same.

what is a shame is, PIE is going to be coming out with something before overload is going to. in the last 30 days they have new products for installing 6-disc changers into a crap load of new mazdas.

Do you have a link to it, or similar stuff?

There is now an adapter that will allow some new Mazda stereos with CD Changer controls to control aftermarket Alpine CD Changers, including the MP3 capable, CHA-S634. Here is a link to the adapter: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piemazpcalp.html.

Thank you,

http://www.pie.net/pcmazda.htm

and

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=445

Still, it's only part of a solution. You can use it to get another CD changer in your truck, or a Pioneer XM unit (when they get the unit to the retailers).

Still no simple, straight-up aux-in.

The other half of the solution you can buy from crutchfield easily. But the price is going to be much more than $50 probably over $100. But the question is, do those devices use the mystery connector that you are looking for? They say they use factory CD Changer controls, but yours uses the tape deck/MD controls.

I dont know if this place has been looked at yet, but they seem to have any connector imaginable, you should email them the specs and see what they have. I have been looking for a while on the site, but did not find the correct part. I will keep looking though.

I hear you.. I want it too, everything good is worth waiting for.

by the way, Tyco own the AMP connector brand, so that might be a ggod place to look.

Also, yes, I can confirm that the PIE adapter definately does use the right connector for the rear of the unit, but not the internal 15 pin job that I really want to use.

Can you clarify that a bit for me. There are more than one connector on the radio? What's the difference?

There is the internal connectors, a 15-pin connector, that the individual modules plug into, and an external 16-pin job, for CDC / auxillary devices.
