Cracked Dashboard
I missed the "pair"
Even still, don't know what crap tires you're buying for a hundred bucks a piece. Let's also remember their quote probably included labor. And maybe even TPMS service kits.

Google "dash crack repair" and you will find professionals and kits available to fix the crack. I had this done on another car several years ago, and you couldn't even see where it was.
Mine cracked, too on an '06 that is garaged. I bought a dashpad + airbag on ebay for $145 and installed it in 20 minutes. It was from an '09, so perhaps I'll have a few year's grace before I need another. Shouldn't happen...
Exactly. Dashes crack in the sun eventually. Some sooner than others. Do some of you want Mazda to take responsibility for your sun-faded paint and worn upholstery too? Get real...

Pete, the crack started in 2008. Now its a crack which shows the airbag. Sun cracks are much different from what i had. Its not my problem anymore. Some of you owners need to get real and admit the car has many problems
It's gonna take more than a cracked dash to put me off this car....

Mine is an 05. Parked outside in the FL sun every day of its life. Still zero cracks.
A dash cracking in the same spot 12 months after production, ok, there's an issue that should be addressed. A dash cracking 3 1/2 - 4+ years, even if it's all in the same spot, nothing Mazda will think twice about. That's like being mad the floor mats wear out or the gear shift **** spins too much.

Well karma is a bitch and I'll be eating a slice of humble pie, thank you very much.
My dash is cracked now. Same spot as everyone else.

It's only about an inch long. Guess I might try the black silicone, as it looks like it worked well.

I've been just living with it. Probably break down and use a vinyl dash repair kit, what an eye-sore!
I bought my '04 used with this problem already. It's in FL and the cracks are so severe it's like a big spiderweb of cracks across the dash about the size of a frisbee. I'll probably be getting a replacement one to pop in myself, but now the dash is so faded if I drop a new one in it'll stick out from the rest... Maybe I can find a shop to treat it so it looks as faded as the whole dash. :P
I moved into an apartment a month ago, and now leave my 8 outside. Got in my car this morning and noticed three cracks near the passenger airbag.
Maybe we should invest in sun-shades.....
Maybe we should invest in sun-shades.....
crack your windows in summer, use a sun shade and wipe down the dash periodically with UV blocking interior protectant.
the cracks are purely cosmetic, there is no safety issue here.
if you need a replacement go where you bought the car which has OEM parts... the mazda dealership. used parts won't last but a few years, if that.

Must be on the payroll. Baghdad Bob is that you?
Mazda keep's saying it wont be a safety issue also. I ask them to put that in writing.
Its sad when a company won't stand by their product.
Sales on Mazda's are down.
I sold mine and would never buy another Mazda car
do you think mazda is the only manufacturer that has airbag seams that crack? or dash pads that crack?
it cracks at the seam which is supposed to rip open when the airbag deploys... it is a weak point and is supposed to be. mine is cracked but am i in here whining for the dealer to replace it as a safety measure? no, because it's not a safety hazard but purely a cosmetic issue.. sheesh.
if you sold the car then why are you still here?

Here you go. I highlighted things in the post that makes you sound like an idiot...
Cracked dashboards, directly on the seam of the passenger front airbag, is not limited to Series 1 RX-8s. My Series 2 developed three separate cracks outlining the seam where the airbag would deploy in the case of an accident. I initially took it in, two months out of warranty, to the service department and was told that the cracks are only aesthetic in nature and would not cause any safety issues with the airbag. Unsatisfied with that answer, I then called Mazda USA and they basically told me that I would need to address this issue with my dealership. I then called my dealership again and am awaiting a final decision. It's been over a month. It's frustrating because it's an apparent design and/or manufacturing flaw. It appears that since so few individuals own RX-8s, we do not have the critical mass that's needed to push Mazda to put out a recall for this obvious design flaw. I would think that Mazda would have addressed this issue since it deals directly with a safety devise (the airbag is permanently attached to the plastic panel that cracks).
