Cracked Dashboard

I noticed a vertical crack on top of the passenger side of the dashboard, I guess over the air bag.
Two weeks later there is a also a horizontal crack at 90 degrees to the first one!
Each about 3" long
They close up in the hot sun, and open to about 2mm in the heat/sun.
I live in Singapore but the car is not left out in the sun most days
Anyone seen this before? I can't find anything on the forum.
Is it an easy fix to replace the dashboard cover that side or does it need a garage and lots of money??!

WVBoosted8 02-27-2009 12:55 AM

I have the same exact thing happening to mine but I dont know wether it is easy to fix or not.

nuke0907 02-27-2009 09:52 AM

is it where the airbag comes out? you might be able to get it replaced under warranty. try using some 303 Aerospace protectant on your dash. its way better than armor-all.

frankcastle123 02-28-2009 02:53 AM

same problem on the passenger air bag, and i dont even use my car!

my car's warranty expired about 3 months ago and now this happens. im taking it to the dealer to see if they replace it under warranty due to it being a safety issue.

lepichichi 02-28-2009 01:54 PM

stealth-x8 03-01-2009 01:54 PM

ZumnRx8 03-01-2009 01:59 PM

frankcastle123 04-24-2009 10:53 AM

myriadshalaks 04-24-2009 11:17 AM

there were a bunch of ford trucks having this problem a few years ago. i guess ford used their share in mazda to introduce some new ways of making dash boards. thanks, ford.

the aerospace stuff is amazing...it blocks more UV than a ton of the other protectants on the market...

Dodge Ram.

frankcastle123 04-24-2009 07:06 PM

its not the dashboard is the actual pass. airbag

yiksing 04-26-2009 07:28 PM

Does anyone know how much this dashboard crack is gonna cost to replace? Can't I buy the cracked piece alone?

Blue Rex 06-03-2009 02:21 AM

Seems like there are a few of us with the same prob then ? I haven't tried yet but I have the feeling that they will want to replace the whole section of dashboard AND the airbag - we all know that anything involving airbags is mucho dollars.
I don't want to simply fill the gap with black goo in case it affects operation of the airbag.....
frankcastle123 - did you get a quote ?????

frankcastle123 09-01-2009 10:35 PM

well i took it to the dealer and they gave me the runaround. they gave me a quote for that plastic piece $450 for just the plastic over the airbag.

mat128 09-02-2009 08:32 AM

For 450$ they better change the whole airbag! Tell them it's truly a safety issue (airbag) and that you are worried to drive the car now that it's cracked (sound convincing :) ). I dont know which Mazda manages stuff in Singapore, but threathen your dealer to call the Mazda North American Operations equivalent where you are. If they still dont want to help you, go to another dealer. I guess there must be more than one in Singapore?
Same thing for you frankcastle123, try telling them you're gonna call MNAO.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but since this was the only thread I could find with advanced search I thought I would resurrect it.

Has anyone gotten any justice from Mazda regarding this?

Is everyone just living with this issue?

8ofSpades 01-17-2011 12:09 AM

i have a damn 4 inch crack on mine too, i thought it was because the dealer who sold me the car had armoralled it and i dont use that crap to it just dried and cracked,

i have to schedule an oil and tranny service im going to inquire when i take it in, im guessing if i raise enough hell they will take care of it. ill post for sure what happens, cause i dont see anything other than the 450 dollar quote in the thread.

Great, thanks! :D:

My dash is cracked in the same place as well, I'd like to hear what kind of luck you have at Madza.

dhill1921 02-03-2011 01:29 PM

I have the same crack too!!!

nrobert151 02-03-2011 04:33 PM

Crack in Dashboard

I have Mazda RX 2005, and have the same problem. I have a crack right in the airbag area. I went to the dealer last year and he told me it would cost about 1200 dollars. Seems to be more then just a few people with the problem. Think about calling Mazda.

firebirdude 02-03-2011 04:35 PM

This sucks for sure. But there's no way Mazda is going to do anything. The 2005's are over 6 years old now. Even if we could prove that particular spot is the dashboards weakest link, it's still had 6+ years of sun on it. No way are they going to pay for it.

8ofSpades 02-04-2011 09:45 AM

Mines been garage parked. I only have 28k miles. But there's no way I can prove to Mazda that I have it in the garage all week out of the sun.

Anyways. I have an appointment for Monday to have my oil change and tranny serviced. So ill post Tuesday what I find out. Wish me luck.

redline86 02-04-2011 10:34 AM

Well you can add me to the cracked passenger dash club because mine is the same way. It's almost in like a perfict t shape. I was wondering if I could get something to patch it since trying to get Mazda to fix it will be a waiste of my time. I've seen Vinyl patch kits, anyone have any experience with these?
