So are the newer ones with the supposed redesigned pivots still breaking? I have a replaced driver's one, but haven't used it enough to really stress it out.

hmm i have an 06 shinka, forget build date. had driver and passenger replaced once within a week of each other. no probs since.

but i do hate the damn sliding lid behind the gear shift, under your elbow. clips keep breaking, NEVER stays snapped in the open/back position. slide around alot as i brake hard a lot.

Replaced both of mine a week ago. This is my second replacement set and the latest incarnation of these sun visors feel much smoother in operation --- the friction around the pivot seems much less than before, with no large "snap-back" force when you put the visor up. The true test will come soon enough, when it starts to get into the 90-100+ F range around here (I use the visors daily).

Thanks for reminding me of the snap-back motion of the old ones. My driver's side one now has a smooth motion as well since it was replaced with the updated versions.

I should purposely bust the passenger one to get it replaced before the warranty runs out.

Hello, I've owned my '04 RX8 for about 6 months now (got a great deal) and a nice choice as a replacement to my '88 RX7 Convert. However, I too have this problem with both of my visors. Since this is the first time I've owned a car with any kind of warranty, I'm a little confused. Since I bought it used, can I still take it to a Mazda dealer to have them replace the visors... is it still under warranty? Also, can they perform the recalls their even if my car is not registered under my name with Mazda?

Thanks,

Dan

I bought my 06 rx8 new last August and the visor broke on the ride home from the dealer. The visor was on back order (must be a common problem) so I had to wait 3 months for it to come in but they replaced it for free (its a 5 minute replacement). Even if you are not the second owner, the factory waranty (mine is 4yrs/ 60k miles) should still apply.

Just broke mine today. With 128,000 miles I think my warranty is up. They can keep there $100.. + dollars. I am guessing with the hot days here in Orlando that the grade A plastic got soft.

My visor broke today the local dealer here wanted $121 for the part. I am at 64k miles. I am checking with trussville to see if they have a better price. When I talked to the dealer they said they keep them in stock, because they have been having a lot of problems with them. Hmmm can you say TSB and give it to us for free. Redesign it Maza there is obviously a problem.

Warrantee coverage does transfer to the new owner. Just go in to your dealer service dept and they should be able to help you. I would make sure that Mazda USA has your ID, so you can receive any important communications. I think you can do this on their website, if not, again, the dealer can help.

There is a TSB for the visor but can't tell if you know that from your post. Also not sure if they do TSB work on a car that is not under warranty. At 64k do you have any left?

Mazda DID redesign the visor; that's why there's a TSB.

My driver side broke a week or two ago. I've been putting off driving into the dealer because I never use it. It does look super ghetto though so I need to do that soon.

Just posting to say: +1 for a broken visor.

I'd just remove it then until you have time to head into the dealership. There are only a couple of screws and one clip so it can be removed in a very short amount of time.

Mine originally broke while driving on a very sunny day so it was not a good situation.

Do dealerships provide parts under warranty and not install it themselves?

My driver's side visor just cracked yesterday. Found out at lunch time. I went to take down my sunshade and noticed that the visor was halfway up. Then it wouldn't stay all the way open or closed. What a pain. I haven't contacted the dealership yet. 44k miles so I think it's still under warranty.

<sigh> same problem... gonna need to get another driver's side visor... which was replaced last year during the summer. I hope this doesn't become a yearly issue...

WOW! well it sounds like this is a common break fix issue and mine just broke yesterday and my 8 only have 8K mikes. I will be checking this up with my dealership this weekend and get it fix. Hopefully they have some in stock!
