I've heard mixed reviews on HDD based systems. First, they advertise "30GB" storage space, but they fail to mention that 20GB will be used for Navigation. Also, I know they almost ALWAYS have fewer POIs than their DVD-based counterparts. Add in the increased price tag and....thats about enough for me to stick with the DVD navi units.

Example, the Eclipse units Im looking at:
http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/feature-hdd.html
3.1 mil POI for the HDD unit
8.5 mil POI for the DVD based unit

I have the Avic Z1 (which is identical to the Z2) havent installed it in the RX-8 yet because I havent decided whether I want to pay the money for the kit. But it was installed in my former car and I loved the Z1.

True that the Navigation does take up quite a bit of space. But I have over 30 cd's stored in my Z1 and still plenty of space. The Z1/Z2 also has over 10 million POI and I have never had a problem finding anything except brand new housing developments. You can even look things up by the phone number and it will locate them.

ZoomZoom - if you had searched you would have found my thread about the Z2 - it's great! it had some problems like it wouldn't do dvds while driving and the HD would lock up when it got hot - but that is all fixed now! it's freakin awesome now!

here is a link to my thread but remember it's old, hehe https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/corksport-avic-z2-experience-review-rest-my-alpine-system-121032/

the only complaint is updates... but thats true with just about any nav system nowadays - but it's been a L O N G time since they've released an update.. and i would say that most DVD systems would push out updates faster, but then look at the RX8 nav - it's been over 2 years..

and if you have any Z2 specific questions, feel free to PM me and keep an eye on www.avic411.com to watch for mods and news and stuff.

Corksport. If you're seriously interested, look for the thread in this forum called "Corksport Group Buy". We are swinging a 15% off group buy discount. But again, this is a definite no-bullspit serious buyers only type of thing. Not a "I might be interested" thing.

Hey guys, couple questions. I was told the Bose adapter is just an LOC, so I bought one. Took the RCA outs of the D3 into the LOC and then into the corksport harness. Will this work? My other question is how the hell did you guys get the HU in with all those wires??? Mine still won't go in. And BTW, could someone tell me in greater detail how to do the driving/video hack? Thanks.

Awesome so basically all I need is the metra kit! Appreciate it ! I thought there was a separate adapter needed for the Bose speakers when just changing the HU

Make note that the double din will not work for climate control models

Yes.

And the install is FAR more than plugging in some wires. IMO the RX8 kit is one of the most difficult kits Metra makes.

from the intructions the only issue it seems i would have is doing the wiring correctly. ive taken the HU apart and changed the LEDs out which wasnt much trouble or to hard to solder but ill see what i can do once i get everything and start putting it in. the instructions dont seem to be terribly explicit on what exactly to do. the soldering and matching of wires would be the most difficult for me just becuase of the fear not soldering the wires to the correct counterpart wires

Wait so if I have a 2007 Rx8 Sport, I can install the double din metra kit?
Will buying it from amazon give me the newest firmware on the Axcess box?

-I was confused about the whole 'climate control' thing

Thanks. That makes sense.
What about the metra kit firmware though? Will it come installed with 1.4?
