FL Aftermarket Alarm System

I'm looking into a 2-way alarm system for my 8 (which I should have Tuesday lol) I don't live in exactly...the best neighborhood, so until my lease is up in March, we're kind of stuck. So, here's what I need.

I would like something with a pager that goes on my keys. I want it to freak out when my alarm goes off. Since I live on the back-side of the complex, I need something to let me know if someone's messing with my car. Do you guys have any suggestions? I'd like to stay in a decent range, so nothing really elaborate. lol I don't need a huge range, maybe 2000 or so feet.

Any suggestions?

I've found this one, but besides the fact that I'm concerned about "going commando", I'm not entirely familiar with the company. Any thoughts?

I would stay away from that brand...the company's 'about' window errored out. I would go with python, viper, clifford, auto page, etc. They are more expensive, but well worth it. Get some of that remote start love too google any of those brands and you can view their system. You can check out crutchfield.com for info too.

Hmm..I didn't have that problem, but I will definitely take your advice. I'm gonna shop around a bit and if it's not too much trouble, I'll post on here and get some opinions. Thanks.

i currently have a cheap audio page alarm in my car, it works ok. free is always a good price. but i have had a viper two-way pager w/ remote start, i really liked it. i lived on the 11th floor of a concrete high rise building, and on the backside away from my work van, and it would remote start from my apartment. only problem was, every time someone bumped my van (downtown tacoma, dammit) the key fob would go off and i would spend the next ten minutes waiting for the elevator to get down there hahahaha...but it was well worth it. my audio page alarm only goes a few hundred feet, line of sight. and doesnt go through buildings. it kind of sucks. but it works. i install car alarms, here is a wire color and location list for the 8 (https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/rx8-wire-colors-locations-177199/). just make sure you test the wires or you'll be sorry. if you need anything man, just pm me. i know my boss has a viper two way with remote start for $120. i dont know how much shipping would be. i'm not saying buy it from this website, but i googled the model number and this was the first one to come up (http://techronics.com/index.cfm?fuse...1702&aff=72182).

I love your sig. XD

I appreciate it. I stopped in a few shops today and I fell in love with ...damnit I can't remember the name of the system. lol Apparently the girls threw the folder away... Anyway, it's a two way, with a pager and remote start, and two accessory buttons that can be programed with two functions each. He said the kit was $200 and he'd do the install with the remote start and all the sensors and such for $200, so $400 out the door, which doesn't seem unfair.

I do have a question though, I was talking to them about installing and they asked what kind of clutch system I had, so they can bypass it. I figured I'd ask you guys. Is it possible to put remote start on a M/T 8? He said he was 80% sure it wouldn't be a problem, but until he saw it he wasn't sure.

be careful using remote start on a stick. i have put remote starts on cars with a MT, and we used the parking brake light wire for the remote start. so if the parking brake light isnt on, the car wont remote start. only drawback is, if the parking brake is only up one click, the light comes on. just dont start it in gear. also, you can test it out in case you dpo start it in gear. leave it in first and pop the clutch without any gas and see how far your car jumps forward. anyway man...good luck.

Thanks, good info. I had a remote start on my old stick... I only started it in gear once and the damage was enough to make sure I never did it again. XD

Looking forward to it. Let me know how it goes. How much is your install? Just the labor itself? I'm wondering if I got a decent price. :P

they installed the remote itself and everything but they failed in the programming of the bypass module. I'll be going back on monday so they can call tech. support and find out whether they were screwing up or the module itself was badd from factory.

installation itself was $190 so far but there's a fee for the programming of the bypass module which is the only thing left to do for the system to be completely functional. at the moment I can acctually get in the car start it with the remote and then walk away with the keys and left the engine running and the car locked.

I'll update on monday. And now off to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Haha that's pretty epic. I look forward to hearing what happened. I've got to take the car by the shop here and let them take a look at it so I can hopefully get a better estimate. lol And I have to tell them about the module. Ugh. More money.

well, here we go!

I took the car back to the shop yesterday and wasn't any different than saturday. Tried my bypass (omega) and tried his bypass and neither one of them worked. Now these two are the ones that you just have to program the key and you are still able to retain the key if you ever need it.

with him being all frustrated gave a try to the bypass which you must leave the key in it and it worked wonders

so, now I have to return the omega and file for an exchange and that's gonna put me out for at least a week.

now, according to him these 2 bypass modules will work yes or yes but still have to seeit to believe it

XPRESS KIT TBXKEY or
DIRECTED 556SW

I'm exchanging the omega for the directed one and crossing my fingers for it to work since I'm getting frustrated myself

keep you all updated when I have any more news.

I'm out and back to work

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear that it's going so poorly for you. Here's to hoping the Directed Module works for you!

well, here i am once again.

i took it so the bypass could be installed and it did. remote starter works like a charm now. and BTW, with this bypass module i got to keep both of my keys so no key was lefti inside the car.

so now, here is the breakdown

Viper 791XV-$90
Directed 556SW-$35up
Labor-$240

came up to a total of $365 which isn't a bad price IMO for a remote starter alarm

any questions let me know

well, I check the for sale section very often and this one popped up and so I snatched it for 90 bucks shipped to my door.

btw, the alarm itself is descontinued but it was still new when I bought.

and the bypass was bought from sonic electronix.

i put in a viper 791xv a few days ago. i have the 6mt so i didnt install the remote start. works perfect. the 791xv has 6 programmable channels. most or all of them are for turning on and off relays. they only output 200mah*. google the owners manual for the details of the channels. i have only hooked up the trunk and doors for now. i dont have a lot of money to put in it right now, but i have been trying to figure out something cool/practical i can do with the extra channels and maybe even the remote start since they are high curent wires. then again, a relay can as well. any suggestions? and the pricing of that install sounded reasonable 400 installed including remote start and tech support...

??Alarm on Series II with Advanced Key??

I am in need of an alarm as well. Has anyone installed one on a series II model with the advanced key (No key required in the ignition). It is also a 6spd Man trans.

I still want to still use the advanced key, but need a better alarm. I did purchase an alarm that my firend will install. He use to do this, but just started his own business. I trust that the install will be with the up most care. The alarm is a 2way with remote start and all. I am not sure if I will use the remote start as it is not one of my desires, but am considering it. I know it can be done on a manual trans, but it is also scary!
