damn.

I just received mine. I had planned to spray paint it silver to match the car, but looking at them next to the car, it's apparent the black clears would match any RX-8 simply because the fender vents, front bumper, tires, trim, etc are all black, and this blends in along with the other black items already on the car.

my initial thoughts:

the parts have little tabs that I cut off with a razor - part of the molding process. The black plastic is significantly thinner than the outer clear lens. The two parts don't snap together or anything, they just fit together and will definitely need to be pressed together when applying epoxy for it to dry correctly.

I just washed them down, gave it a good drying with a microfiber towel, and in an hour or so will head out to get some plastic epoxy. The stuff I had in my garage is over a year old and didn't look so good. Will likely have pics tomorrow.

I purchased an assembled set. I do like the overall look of this. I have to say, though, the uneven application of sealant and enormous air gaps in various sections of the seams are really apparent and do not look nice at all. That is my only problem. I felt the company would have been better at applying the sealant than I would have so I purchased it assembled. Wish I had gotten an unassembled kit instead.

I have just assembled mine.

You MUST get sealant that drys clear, or you will clearly see it. I had a choice between clear generic sealant, or plastic sealant. I went for the plastic stuff and it's drying with a yellow tint.

Tonight I'll have a better idea if the corners are trashed or OK.

I was able to seal the corners all the way around, so there should be no gaps or openings when you're done.

There are 3 tabs in the black plastic part, apply a SMALL mount of sealant there so that it holds together. IF you apply more than a little, you may find it squeezes out and into the clear plastic area. This would be bad as the plastic is crystal clear and it will be noticeable.

here is a crappy picture what I am talking about.

look at the bottom seam and you can see various reflections due to gaps where the clear plastic does not sit flush + sealant creating air bubbles.

you can also see a circular bubble at the far upper edge.

so i recommend, if your handy, buy an unassembled set.

i will be playing around with these to see if i can clean it up a little.

installed photos.

the last one here is where it really shows how horrible the clears are if your using something that doesn't dry clear.

All is not lost. Tomorrow I'll sand down the bottom to see if that helps (since it's just over the paint, it won't matter if the bottom isn't perfectly clear, as long as it's matte all the way around.

If that fails, I'll try some tinting. And should that fail, I'll trash them.

Will post up my results as I proceed.

And the horror.

I'm starting to think the silver spray paint idea was not too bad. In fact, the bottom and top part of the inside of the clear corners could be painted silver too, that would completely hide the joint areas when you apply sealant.

These look best on an 8 other than bb. Cause of the contrast in colours. Id like to see someone do something to the back to make it look good on a BB.

Finished up sanding down the clears with a dremel.

They still look terrible. I can't get them cleaned up enough to look decent.

I'm not going to drop another $60 (unassembled + shipping) on a second set to just try it out. If rx8strakes offered me a set for discount, I'd consider it, but at this point I'm going to consider it a total loss and move on.

^ To be fair, I unwittingly picked a glue that didn't dry clear. So it looks like someone blew their nose into it.

Dudes...I just mounted my new clear corners on my Metro-Grey Mica 8 and they are fantastic. They match the headlamp assemblies perfectly and I added the chromed-amber bulbs. When they are off they blend great with the car in the daylight and when on they are street legal. The original orange lens really sucked on this 40th 8 but these babies really look custom and should have come from the factory with such. Oh yea, and I bought the assembled ones and there was no "gaps" in the glue or any defect that I could see. They fit perfectly and I'm well satisfied. I ordered them and received them the same week and that was not the expensive postage option. I will buy again from this vendor....rotor-on...

Vast improvement over the orange-originals...at least on a Metro-Grey Mica that is...
