scanalyzer
I haven't had so much luck with scanalyzer and vista. I managed to log one run, after fiddling with different usb/serial adapters, drivers and different settings, but after several hours of more fiddling, wiggling plugs, etc. I can't get it stable enough to log another run without the timing out.
the times that it does connect, the dtc page does not work
I'm gonna try again with xp...

nothing's "native" usb... if it has a usb connection it's because he put a serial converter in-line.
On one of my laptops (an older AMD K6) I used it's 9 pin rs232 port and just maxxed out the port through device manager.... 128k baud, hardware flow control, max fifo and that's stabilized sCANalyser significantly.

EFI dude works on vista (for me at least) I went out for a quick drive around the block, to see if I could download data, and it works!)

I read that thread about the 'better' usb adapter. I bought one, and it kinda worked but not well enough for me. Anyhow, I don't have Vista anymore. I 'upgraded' to XP! But because this stupid laptop came with vista and it's a touchscreen tablet, 80% of the drivers do not work at all, but luckily on some laptop forums, someone put together a driver set for this 'upgrade'. I just need to finish this and try again. I don't think I'll have a problem with the good adapter and XP though.

upgrading to xp is not going to help much, it is a serial port issue.

I have an HP tx1220ca. It came with touchscreen support but I think people were having problems after switching to xp with the touchscreen or needing tablet edition. I think even with vista it was 'working' but just a little too buggy for me. I'm also changing to xp for a bunch of other reasons too. I hope to try it out this weekend.
