Affordabe Datalogger that works with vista?

So, I was going to get the EFI dude datalogger, but according to the website:

***Note to Windows Vista Users: DudeLogger software is not fully compatible with Windows Vista at this point. We are working on an update to correct the issue.

I'm looking to get a custom map made by MM asap!

I have an EFI dude, but I don't have Vista. It works great on XP, and even outputs to a csv file. I'd fire them off an email and see how long before their Vista compatability will be ready.

Ha ha ... or you can buy the EFIDude, lend it to me and I'll lend you the use of my CPU (we're practically neighbors)

But seriously, I'd email them to see exactly what the "incompatibility" is ... if it's something like ... the EFI logo graphic doesn't show up, then who cares.

Well I ordered the EFI dude and will run winxp through virtualization (installed xp on the virtual partition) I will have to hope everything else will work the same =)

Bluefrenzy: You're welcome to borrow it =) I have no issues with that. I go home sometime in Oct, maybe we should set up a data logging meet! LOL, i'll bring my laptop so we can dump everything onto it and separate it all =) I should charge $5 a pop for data logging =p w00t =D

I have it but don't run it on any of my Vista machines. My eeepc is XP and as stated previously is rock solid under it.

Odd that it has incompatibilities. It uses the .NET 2.0 runtime which is fairly Vista friendly. It's probably a driver related issue. 32 bit Vista will probably run it fine with elevated permissions.

actually, unless you're signed on as the local administrator account or disabled elevation all-together, you still need to run "Run as Administrator" to run fully elevated.

It's worth a try if you're running 32 bit Vista.

Really? I moved my user under the 'administrator group' in vista which also has the 'administrator' account located there, I thought that would run everything in elevation.

how do I check if I disabled elevation?

what about the innovate OT1?

I like the fact that the CAN stream can be tied in to other sensors like the wideband o2 and exhaust temp sensors.

If you don't have any kind of a carputer setup or a laptop, the MSD dashhawk has been a really awesome logger for anything I've used it for.

Check out www.dashhawk.com and see what you think. It's plug and play with the software being updated all the time with new features and bug fixes. You can easily take AFR readings, calculated load, MAF data, RPM etc. which will aid you in getting a custom map setup.

sCANalyser can be buggy... very buggy actually. Although it does tend to calm down after a few initial crashes and connects/disconnects with the COM port pegged at 128k with hardware flow control enabled. Also haven't gotten much response from hymee from a CS perspective... not sure what the deal is there... no updates to the software since 2005 and it uses the .NET 1.1 runtime.

I've had challenges both native rs232 and with a serial to usb converter. My problems decreased dramatically after I hardwired the COM port open at 128k with CTS/RTS enabled.

I couldn't get it to run with vista, I ended taking the laptop back and paying a extra $400 for another laptop with older (XP) software on it.
It wasn't Hymee's software, it was .netframe works that Vista didn't like, but the scanalsyer wouldn't work with out .net

Happy Now with what I've got form him

the software works great.. but the serial to usb is the problem.. you have to have a good connector..

i am running his software with vista well.

updates, and trial and error. but xp and a serial port was easy..

I would contact hymee and see if the Scanalsyer or one of his other produes are the thing you're after, if it runs OK on Vista... This is a very good logger, and the gauges, engine check system is excellent

Scanalyzer works with Vista, you just need to run the beta version on the install disc. I ran into this problem a few months back when I upgraded and Hymee was quick to help

Am I the only one that gets a firewall error trying to visit the hymee website? It's as if they didn't pay their hosting bill....

I haven't had so much luck with scanalyzer and vista. I managed to log one run, after fiddling with different usb/serial adapters, drivers and different settings, but after several hours of more fiddling, wiggling plugs, etc. I can't get it stable enough to log another run without the timing out.

the times that it does connect, the dtc page does not work

I'm gonna try again with xp...
