MM vs COBB
Hoping this is the appropriate place, but just curious to see how many buy their AP from COBB or MM... I got to thinking and figured the majority of people will be buying from MM but wasnt sure how accurate that was.
Well, if you're stock and plan on remaining so, you could use it as-is from Cobb, but you'd still be missing out on many of the other benefits that MM provides to the RX8 community at the same price; lower fan trigger temps and increased oil injection, for example.

that's kinda the way it is... but similar to the racing beat flash, you dont take into account the slight (or major) variations from car to car. So even if it's only a little bit better, the customization can have an effect... and as you mentioned... at the same price. As far as I can tell, there's not a huge reason to buy from COBB directly.. I think I had another point... but cant remember it at the moment.
anyone knowing of MM's offerings of the Cobb AP would have to be ignorant to purchase one from Cobb.
The maps availible for AP's purchased from Cobb are adequate at best. and thats assuming a totally stock car. even a modification as insignificant as an intake will throw your AFRs off

I dont think u will find anyone on the forum who bought the AP from Cobb directly. That makes absolutely no sense as you get it from MM for same price as well as getting custom support. Only way it would be remotely justified is if you lived next door to Cobb.

there's someone selling one that didnt buy through MM. That's what made me curious about how many actually have just a plane one...
As of right now, MazdaManiac is the primary person to get the accessport from. He's charging the same retail price as COBB but providing his own maps free of charge including support for any minor tweaks or changes in these maps.
Sure when the street tuner software is released you'll be able to create your own maps so perhaps buying directly from COBB would be fine but why would you? If Mazdamaniac is continuing to at least provide numerous pre-loaded maps for the same cost your money is going farther getting it from him.

RB duct, Green or K + N filter, call it a day with the most possible power.
From my MANY hours of reading MM's AP threads, the only thing more MAJOR in terms of what the computer sees then an intake is FI... That said, if you mean minor like all noisse and losing power, you are correct. It appears our cars do not liek the MAF readings from any intakes. Since there is essentially NO power to be gained, I'm falbergasted why people insist on buying them.

Mods: Racing Beat REVi, ram air duct, aluminum flywheel, race pipe, LS2 Yukon coils.
Steve sent me a stage 2 map for intake & exhaust. Runs fine. After the motor is fully broken in I'm going to his shop to dyno tune it.
For those who don't know, Steve Kan is arguably the best rotary tuner in the nation. He's been at the top levels of drag racing, autox and has been a speaker at various rotary gatherings.

I guess I don't get out much.

I guess I should have added a 3rd option for "Other"... thought about it but didnt really know if anyone else was selling it... oh well... it gets the point across still.
I'd buy it because proceeds from every accessport go to the MazdaManiac avatar production fund. We've got at least a dozen models to house and feed people!
Steve Kan tuned the car yesterday. I'll start a new thread with the dyno sheet and info. It'll be good reading!

i'm tempted to buy a second just to support the cause!!
