I don't even need to do that much...lol...It was going to be passed regardless...The process was just more for my curiosity.

 

Ohh ok got you. I just know some people at couple inspection stations. And they hook it up for me. No questions asked. Just if my lights work and im good to go

 

I would rather not have smog cost me $40, $20 a year is enough for me. I pass their test without trying to bribe someone which is better in my eyes.

 

UPDATE:

The software from the previous location I used was updated, and will only allow a car to pass if it has no more than 1 "not ready" code (the last time I passed inspection, I had 2) for any car that is 2001 and newer...Yesterday I drove for 25 miles after clearing my CEL, and was unable to pass the training...However, at 95.7 miles, I still had no CEL, and decided to try it again...BOOM!...Pass...I was able to get down to 1 "not ready" code...If you run into this issue, just drive until your systems are ready (but obviously not long enough for your CEL to come on).

 

This thread has brought me much enjoyment. For our leafy green friend who still enjoys burning dinosaur bones's information the most recent studies on the holes in the ozone caused by the oldschool cfc's and what not say that the ozone is becoming more concentrated filling in those holes well at least that big one over antartica is and they should be gone in the next 40ish years. Finally go to Shanghi or New Delhi or Kabul for a week then attempt to go complain about pollution in an american city. Spent 6 months in Kabul turns out they had toxic levels of feces in the air horrible resperitory infections for about 1 year afterwards.

Yes I'm reviving and yes I'm new to this forum but just got an 04 At on the 9th and went to get inspected. Failed for P0661 as well as P0420 (think that's right not sure) my dad has a code reader and cleared the Cat code. now all that's showing up is the P0661. My question is do you know if that will pass if its the only code getting thrown?

I did read that thread thanks for th link though i was looking for it.

The question i was initially asking was would i be able to pass with a single code pending.

Answer is no (at least for emissions counties here in TX) Need to have all codes (pending/set) cleared and all but 1 readiness monitors set.

Passed inspection with one readiness monitor out (SAI) and got an out of state inspection certificate along with the inspection.

 

I have followed and used this site for a long time and finally signed up to comment on this thread because it's a great subject. By the way, I have an RX-8 and I'm getting rid of the cat, I'm just trying to decide which method. Here's a great example in a more noticeable scale from my own experience...not something I read on wiki or threads, and please no haters, it's just something to think about:

I also own a 2008 Ford F-350 6.4ltr turbo diesel, yeah yeah I know, completely different you say...well not the exhaust or emissions. In fact on all new diesels in addition to a cat, they have a DPF (diesel particulate filter) which is EVEN worse for the engine and it is there to catch the soot a diesel creates (people don't like seeing that black dirt so they made a filter for it) Anyway, it operates much like a cat but also at certain intervals injects extra fuel into 2 cylinders to heat up the emissions and essentially burn itself clean...this is terrible for the engine causing once reliable 500k mile diesel engines to fail before 100k, not to mention the extra fuel and horrific gas mileage. A brand new 2015 F-350 gets around 12-14mpg...my 1999 got 19mpg and that was 15 years ago. They are now also adding diesel exhaust fluid to newer vehicles further reducing the efficiency of the engine. My current truck has a strait exhaust, H&S tuner and some other tweaks and its TWICE the HP (yes, I dyno'd it) and I gained 5mpg averaging out to about 120 GALLONS of diesel I'm NOT using per year. Some "environmentalist" please tell me the emissions my now fuel efficient truck is putting out is worse than the 120 GALLONS of fossil fuel I would otherwise burn!
So we have to ask ourselves, at what point will all the political crap and push for lower "emission points" be so invasive to the environment, and to all of us consumers, that someone will stand up and say WTF are we doing? Millions of additional gallons being burned each year, millions of dollars in additional repairs for pre-mature failures, and probably billions in R&D for additional emission regulation. At some stage there is no gain in adding more emissions crap because it's actually doing more harm than good...I think we have passed that point.
Oh, and there has to be some truth to the pollution it takes to obtain the precious metals used in cats. You think the Russians are using cats on those huge mining machines that run 24/7?
