DIY: Moton Club Sport coilover install
dennis grant recommends setting spring rates via natural frequency (NF) (2.2Hz front, 2.5Hz rear). note these NFs are for a dedicated autox car. there's a lot of debate over the value of natural frequency. carroll smith (tune to win, driveto win, etc.) didn't put much stock in it. smith recommended to go with the softest spring rate in rear that kept the inside rear on the ground and to then tune with the fronts. in my research 2.5Hz front and 2.2Hz rear for the rx-8 is a good starting point to set the suspension envelope. it's not gospel, but it's a good start.
afa spring lengths for the motons, as you found out 8" Lo (spring length abbreviation) for the rear is too tall. 7" puts the spring nearly at the bottom of the threads for a 26" ride height. 6" is good for the rear. for the fronts 8" is good, but with a 2.5" ID at a 26" ride height you'll notice you can't go much lower since the spring's diameter is too wide to go past the upper a-arm opening. as such a 7" is a better bet.

Eibach doesn't offer a 6" 2.5 ID 325lb spring. I take it you sourced another manufacturer.

yep, i went with 2.25" ID hypercos. i'm going to see about having a spare set of the rear delrin upper spring perches machined down to accommodate a 2.25" ID spring. hyperco has a very good selection of springs in 2.25" ID. to stay with eibach 2.5" ID go with 7" Lo all around. to stay with eibach, i'd recommend the following part #s:
2.25" ID: 0700.225.0650 and 0700.225.0325
2.50" ID: 0700.250.0650 and 0700.250.0325
2.25" ID: 0700.225.0650 and 0700.225.0325
2.50" ID: 0700.250.0650 and 0700.250.0325
heh, for some reason i didn't get an update about your post team. do you mean to say that you recommend substantial time on the 650/325 combo before making about a recommendation about it? if so, i think i did qualify the recommendation as only a better starting point than 700/400. that's all i was attempting to convey.
i just posted an update on some new suspension bits and setup info in teamrx8's mod/STU thread.
