This trick worked wonders!

I had my car seriously flooded and this cleared it up right away. I have an '06 GT but the Canadian version. For any one with the Canadian version you'll notice that there are no caps on the service inlets. Instead there are already one large line exiting just bellow the oil fill cap and then it gets spliced in two to the two inlets. For warranty fears since there were already connections. I just unscrewed the windshield washer reservoir and and disconnected the line washer line at the elbow joint just at the hood of the car. I then did like others did and just connected that too each inlet and squirted.

**note for people having trouble starting at first my car was showing some signs of coming back but then it wouldn't take.

Solution: Have another car running and have jumper cables attached to it. Since there is a large and rapid drain on your battery at start up (and especially is you've been trying to get it started for a while) your battery might not be able to keep up with the needed power.

As soon as I had the car's booster cables hooked up she started on the 1st try and man did she smoke... I've never been so happy to have my garage look like it was on fire ... hehe

same thing here, just looked up on my '09 (canadian version) and its got the tubes, join and biggertube to oil vent.

My guess... when I flood it, just disconnect the tube from oil vent, connect it to windshield washer tube and pump it a couple times, then replace and start.

right?

Yes thats exactly right. You might need some one with small hands to get the lines back on the inlets. I would recomend to any one with an RX-8 to always have a 10mm wrench and jumper cables just incase she floods. One day I'll try and take some pics of the Canadian model so people have a better idea.

This procedure totally works! It took me a couple of times for it to actually pull through but it was deffinitely the relief I needed after hearing the quote from the dealership. Highly recommend this procedure.

I've been driving my yellow RX-8 for 2.5 years now... but when I swapped cars with a co-worker (Toyota Camrys do better in the snow, if you didn't already know this!), and sure enough, he flooded my car.

Tried this method of deflooding, and it worked! Thanks Devoid!!!!!!!!!

DIY deflooding under 5 min ...It worked thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Practically a genious!!!! DEVOID!!!!!!!

Thank you...
2005 27,000 miles never flooded before, weak battery after 15 days out very low temps, tried to start, started and suddenly died.....panic,

Charged the battery with charger 3 hrs
Removed the plugs on the intake ports (used a table knife (not sharp just an edge) to pry off (they slide off).
Removed the fuel relay.
with the the battery fully charged and with the charger on engine start mode (for more cranking amps) cranked the engine twice for 7 second with 10 secs rest in between.
INSTALLED Relay back on socket
Squirt....squirt...... ON EACH PORT....put one of the plugs back in (other lost) see below for replacement.
Tried it, better sounding cranking with combustion...

waited 10 secs, tried again

waaaaaaaa 7 secs ,,,10 secs wait, then...... coughing..... vroom let it iddle, did not accelerate to push it and gradually came up to iddle speed on its own, got some but not all the fire dept calling alarm anticipated smoke ...relief....

only downside..I lost one of the plugs, but with the hose from the washer cut about 1 inch and burned off the tip and sealed (vacuum tight), i will look for a replacement. the amount cut was long enough to provide a plug and still make a good connection back to the washer line elbow.

Just a brilliant suggestion and approach that worked.

Did not take the spark plugs out...too cold and could not. Hope it works for the rest..My second approach would have been a push start (manual transmission), but nobody around.!

thanks a million

The wiper fluid in the maintenance ports worked for me when literally every other method did not. Needless to say, I and other forum locals were skeptical, but it took like 10 minutes and I was up and running again like nothing was ever wrong.

I was in an accident in my daily driver today, so sincerely, thank you to OP and others in this thread for getting my 8 back up and running. Wish I had tried this sooner lol....

This procedure works!!

Wow! My turbo RX8 was badly flooded. I tried for 5 days to start it (mazda deflood, pump fuse, spark plugs, oil, etc)..... nothing worked. I tried this wiper fluid procedure as my last resort and the engine started right away!! I just have wished to try this 5 days back!!!

Thanks Devoid!

Unless you have an automatic....why would you even bother

If you tow it for 50 feet it will start even if there is almost no compression

RX8 was flooded for the second time. First time had it towed, this time I was determined to do it myself. After two days of trying other methods, I found this thread. Didn't have washer fluid, so i tried the antifreeze. Three to four engine turnovers and it started. lots of smoke, but runs great. Thanks to all who posted. This really worked.

I thoguht giving a little throttle would help as i did it, would seem it doesn't!
Going to try this in the morning as i have now tried all the other methods for 2 days with no joy :-( don't understand how this works but willing tio try anything now!

@Kenpo2 How the hell did you use a table to pry those off? I would have thought even a small coffee table would never fit down there

ON My 8 wont start!

I started up my 8 to pull it into the driveway last week and turned it off way quickly! I followed the manuals deflooding procedure, with no results. I then jacked up my card, removed all 4 spark plugs, and turned the ignition to expel the gas, cleaned the dirty plugs, ect. Still nothing! Im really desperate here and any advice at all would be great. Im thinking i may have used old plugs, maybe the starter?

Exclamation

For those who find the windshield washer fluid injection doesn't work, or if you live in the following areas, note that due to EPA or local state environment department regulations, the amount of cleaning agents in wiper fluid (as a percentage of weight) has fallen in California from roughly 35% to 10%; Texas, too, has a statewide limit of 23.5%, while the cities of Atlanta, Ga., and Phoenix, Ariz., also have restrictions, with the former being only 8% by weight. Most other states have limits around 35% but there may be others more restrictive. There have also been limits placed on the volume of antifreeze that can be included in pre-mixed fluid. Typically, there are some exceptions made for mountain areas or regions that are often colder during winter months, but increasingly your over-the-counter wiper fluid is often little more than colored water. Note that the main cleaning fluid, methyl alcohol, is one of the things restricted which would affect not only cleaning of the plugs (and your windshield), but also the advantage of the fluid in its ability to ignite. The fluid often now being mainly water, it still may help compression, but any advantage over, say ATF or oil, is lost. You may wish to check your fluid for the listed amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) (the methyl alcohol).

Awesome DIY! I did this to my 2005 with a small twist. I used a double valve (from Petsmart fish tank section) with as flow through. I ran individual hose from each valve to the intake port. Now I can cycle either cylinder with water, seafoam, etc and leave one closed to keep the car running. Switch the other valve to clean the other cylinder. I also always have washer fluid, so I can crack open the valves while driving and shoot a blast at RPM to keep her clean.

Great Idea! So glad to have this forum as a resource.

Ah! I see you did the classic "rotor to cylinder" conversion!

By far, this is the absolute best de-flood method I have ever seen. It took no time at all...although I was too lazy to make a permanent solution....or even try to access those maintenance ports. I was ghetto and just took out the lead plugs and put some washer fluid through there and started her up
I will share this with all the rotary community (to those that aren't on here). Lol.
