Im at a loss. Replaced my starter. Took out the plugs (they were soaked) Fuel relay and fuse.

Cranked the engine in 10 second intervals for about 30 mins till it was bone dry. Put the plugs back in. Tried the mazda pedal trick fro about 20 mins.

Still wont start. Took the plugs out and they were dry. Put em back in and tried starting again. No dice.

I really dont know what to do at this point. Any ideas?

*edit* Got it running. Tow start for the win.

Said7,

I've posted my results in this thread and spent several hours trying to get the car to start with the windshield washer trick. I'm sure it can be done, others have proven it. As for me, if it should happen again, I will find a friendslowly, turn the ignition on, and slowly release the clutch. I'm confident the car will start within a 100 feet. Not hard to do, just requires a friend and another vehicle. Also a proven method, no dissassembly required.

Well, my first post in quite a while maybe two years or so. I tried this mod but I think I was too late. My wife had moved it while I was away on travel, and moved it back the following morning so the garbage collector wouldn't hit it. She thought she let it warm up enough but it didn't work out that way...

She tried to start again the next day, followed by me trying it and the usual deflooding procedures. Ran to the aquarium store and bought all the parts, set it up and still nothing. I could probably go through the steps of changing out the plugs and clearing it out, but I'm going to let mazda do it cause I don't have the time.

I'll hook it back up when it gets back tho, that way I'll hit the deflooder valve if this ever happens again.

The ones at the local store were all cheap plastic crap, but I found the following online that I'll probably use instead:

http://www.petdiscounters.com/Brass-...ang-p3432.html

looks like I can snap off the plastic housing that lets it hang on the side of the tank. Thoughts? Use the 3 valve instead and cap off the end?

Those caps can be tough to remove at first.
Just use pliers and rotate the caps back and forth until it breaks free.
Then, continuing the rotation, start pulling the cap off.

They are not screwed on... just "fused" together.

If its not cranking at all, check the battery voltage and also the connection to it.
The washer fluid won't prevent it from at least attempting to start.

i tried hooking it up to my dads car to jump it because the battery voltage was low, so does this mean my starter is bad?

This means your battery was drained. Are you still using the OEM battery.
Recovering from a flooded engine does drain the battery pretty good.

You can just jump-start your car with your dad's car and then let the alternator charge the battery.
If you have an external battery charger, remove the battery and let it charge overnight.

If you drained the battery too much, it may not be rechargeable.
You can also take it to Autozone and they will test and charge it for free.

I went to try accessing the maintenance ports on my rx8, but they are already connected by tubing to the oil line. Why does my '05 RX-8 have this?

Its a newer design that routes the oil neck to the maintenance ports instead of the intake.
Only the early models ('04 and early '05) have those ports capped.
You should be happy... at least you don't need a catch-can

Actually, I have a latter '05 build (end of March) and my oil neck is piped to the intake.... well, was until I installed a catch can.

I'm at a loss guys. Last night i discovered that my car was flooded. It's colder than usual here in texas (32) and i had moved it earlier in the day, i guess i didn't give it time to warm up.

So, after the usual stand on the gas for ten seconds, crank, etc, i remembered (after my first flood) that i had seen this mod, decided to pop out a syringe and use a 70/30 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water (washer fluid is empty).

No crank after that either.

should i try a tow start now?

If the engine doesn't crank, then its the battery or connection to it.
If it does crank, yes... try to tow start it.

Yeah... connect the cables/straps to the two front tow hooks (supplied in your trunk), don't have the car in 1st gear (2nd is fine), and gently pull the car.
Once you pop the clutch and it starts, quickly press the clutch pedal back down so you don't ruin the tranny (since the truck is still pulling you).
Have a way to communicate to the other vehicle so they know to start braking (and you do the same).
Leave the car running while you unhook the tow straps and then take the car for a drive.
