If you want to see them move - turn the car on and the lights on, in the driveway or some place where you can see the beams against a wall, then get two friends to jump into the back seats while you watch the beams - you'll see the beams rise a bit when the friends jump in, then lower themselves after a second to so... and the reverse happens when the friends get out of the back seats.

I have an 05 gt that has HID but not sure if they are auto leveling but they are extremely low. Before I adjust them Id like to know if all HID are self adjusting or if that's a separate option and how can i tell the difference between the two?

Where are you located? AFAIK all stock HID headlights are required to have auto leveling in the US and Canada.

Im in Kentucky. So it does have auto leveling. My headlights are extremely low they shine on the ground about 15ft in front of the vehicle. I just bought the vehicle so i am not sure what the deal is, if it was a bad adjustment or if something is broke. My question is should I try adjusting them or look for something broke and if so what am I looking at or for?

Thanks for this thread, I will have to readjust mine because recently my headlights started to shine on the ground only no more than 10 feet... I could barely see at night.

What causes them to change??

Check the headlight height sensor near the drivers rear wheel.

roughly how far out should the beams go? Like the last few posters my passenger only shine a bright beam on the ground 13ft from the car. The car has a rebuild title, and there is small frame damage on the driver side [ which I was told there wasnt any frame issues] and it shine about 25ft, so wasn't sure if this is how far it is supposed to shine.

^ I want to know too.. the manual print out in the OP's first post isn't very clear..
WHat is elbow point and centre of headlight? If the car is 10 ft away, where from the ground should it be pointing at?

Easy way to check them...

Key on, Engine off, lights on, open the hood and sit, you should hear the little motors adjusting the headlights as you put your weight on and off it. It takes a sec or 2 for them to actually adjust so don't try jumping or anything like that lol.

Sorry I'm gonna bump this too, I tried adjusting my headlights yesterday and it did nothing. Noticed the lights have "seemed" low after putting on lowering springs. Tried searching and could only find that the sensor is on the rear sway bar...

Turning the headlight adjustment screw does nothing? :/

I have a series 2 and I tried adjusting my headlights from the top (open hood and adjust :P) and it did nothing :/ the screw turns but the lights don't adjust. Tried both sides. No luck.

I have auto leveling HIDs and the headlights move up and down according to the weird. They just aim way too high and blind oncoming traffic.

My front leveler arm (that cast rod that attaches to the bracket on the front lower control arm) snapped and the upper bracket sheared off. I'm not sure when this happened because I only noticed it when I was changing my front brakes and saw the fragment dangling over the control arm. I haven't noticed any issues with the headlights nor do I have the headlight leveling MIL illuminated. I'm guessing from this thread then that the sensor works just fine, and that I can manually set the level then to override the car's inability to autoadjust?
