Alright so I bought Gh8st's old S.S. and i put it on fine but I have a problem or two and a few questions...

1) I started to grind 5th gear after I put it on, it seemed to not want to go in, like id have to push real hard to get it to go in which makes me think it was popping out, im not too sure so I adjusted it and hopefully it fixes the problem because Ive never grinded into 5th before... anyone have this problem?

2) Is it normal for the shifter to touch the bolt when in 2nd gear? I have some pics if you'd like (bad quality) but it might do some justice, its like the bottom of the shifter, the part thats flared a little, hits the bolt, it only does it in 2nd gear, this normal?

3) What do I do with the last boot to take off? do I leave it off or try and shove it over the S.S.

thanks guys, let me know... hopefully I can fix this problem

How has everyone fit both of the shift boots over the syncro saver unit?? There is no way that the bottom most boot will fit without being heavily butchered. I tried the unit without the bottom boot but now there is A LOT of engine and tranny noise coming into the cabin through there. The bottom boot is responsible for creating a seal between the hole I believe. Let me know what you guys did. Thanks

Has there ever been problems of the shifter bouncing out of gear?? Im sure thats fixed with an adjustment but Im just thinking that if youre doing some hard shifting, it might bounce back...

Sorry, I goofed and put my answer to the boot and bolt issue with pics in a new thread in the tech garage:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/synchro-saver-install-issue-s-195520/

It took me a weekend to figure it out, but shouldn't be hard to copy, and the results are worth the work. Messing around, it's also very clear just how much noise is originating from that area of the car. For my final fitment, I filled up the empty areas around the shifter with closed-cell foam (mostly urethane house water pipe insulation) and it made the car noticably quieter than before.

(Maybe a moderator can move that thread over here where it belongs, sorry.)

I helped someone else install this on their car. If it's jumping out of gear it's because you have the detents adjusted too far in and they aren't allowing the synchro to go fully into gear. Going overboard and adjusting it too far in will eventually cause more problems than it will solve. We didn't have to cut the rubber cover either. It's rubber and all you have to do is use enough force to stretch it into place. We installed all the factory rubber pieces on without modification. He has the OE shifter with stainless steel shifter cup and it doesn't rattle or exhibit any noise issues.

Hey Brice,

What's OEM bolt size again? I replaced mine with the longer ones you sent, but now I'm reverting back to stock and can't find my old bolts.

THANK you in advance!

Off Memory I cannot remember and I don't have a set on hand I can measure to tell you.

Did you already sell it or trade it? Try getting the old bolts from them

Can anyone help measure the (3) OEM bolts that hold the stock shifter?

Any details will be greatly appreciated. The new buyer can't drive his car if he removes the OEM bolts lol. I'll have to include these long ones in for him to use with the Synchro Saver.

I just installed mine today and I love it. There were just a few issues with the install:

I could not fully engage 2nd gear with the provided "stopper" bolts. The bolt on the bottom left did not allow enough clearance so I used a bolt with a smaller head.

Also, in order to get rid of the excess tranny noise and fluid smell I had to seal off the bottom boot with RTV silicone sealant, since it requires cutting to mount the new bracket.

Once you get it properly adjusted the shifts feel nice and affirmative. Great product!

Yes, I had the bolt problem as well and reported it here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=195520

I'm both surprised and disappointed that 2 years later, it's still shipping with the same, easily corrected, problem.

If you have an issue like that it would be best to email me or post in my vendor threads. To my knowledge you are the only two that have had this issue. I will look into it.

With the 2nd/4th/6th gear plate adjusted all the way towards the back of the car, I couldn't even get it into 2nd gear. It would almost go in and then bounce out. With the smaller bolt head it settles in nicely against the properly adjusted plate.

I guess my shifter fork could just be bent a tad? Not every car is identical due to varying degrees of wear and tear and abuse

Now that it's all sorted out I love it though! Thanks Brice.

Post #153 and #161 above, in this thread you started for customer feedback. It's also mentioned in posts #102, #113, #116, and #117 of the thread you started in your vendor section: https://www.rx8club.com/mod-reference-info-103/syncro-savers-165552/

I believe this is not a problem with the Axialflow Short Shifter, only with the stock one. Many will not recognize that the shifter collar hits the bolt, instead of the shifter arm itself hitting the saver plate, before going fully into 2nd gear. You can see what it's doing with a right-angle mirror held down near the level of the plate.

I will be enclosing it with an extra bolt with a smaller head size for that position in the event the customer has an issue.

Thank you for pointing it out.
