Syncro Saver Customer Feedback

Now that we have had the product out there for a bit now I wanted to get some more feedback from more customers.

We are very proud to introduce a new product to the community!

Syncro Savers!

Over shifting during performance driving is a common occurrence across a wide variety of vehicles and the RX-8 is no exception.

During spirited driving, the faster you shift, the sooner you get back on the power. Unfortunately, faster shifting is usually more aggressive shifting which leads to “over shifting” the transmission.

Over shifting is shifter travel greater than required to engage the gear which can cause serious damage to internal transmission components such as synchronizers, clutch hubs (which contact the synchronizer) or the shift forks. From the drivers seat this seems very slight but the clearances inside the transmission are measured it thousandths of an inch! In other words, a little extra movement in the shifter is eliminating the required clearances inside the transmission.

The next time you are in your vehicle, select a gear and release the shifter. Press the shifter harder into the same gear and you will notice the shifter actually continues to move past the point where the transmission is already in gear! In vehicles with short shifters this will be masked slightly because of the shortened throw but the internal stresses are still present and possibly worse because of leverage. During spirited driving it is likely happening with ALL of the shifts because the driver is focused on getting to the next gear as quickly as possible.

The bottom line, this slight additional movement breaks internal components! Race cars with aftermarket shifters have been addressing the problem for years and now you can as well!

The Syncro-Saver when installed properly will eliminate the additional excessive travel of the shifter with a definitive shifter stop which in turn will eliminate the binding of components inside the transmission. You set it, lock the stops in position and forget it!

This also allows you to focus on your driving and NOT worry about over shifting and damaging the transmission.

These have been tested on multiple cars already with the AFE Short Shifter and Standard OEM Shifter as well with great success!

Instock and Ready to ship!

The click you hear after every shift is my shifter (AF Short Shifter) hitting the Syncro Saver thus letting me know that I no longer need to apply shifting force and also to let me know that it is in the selected gear position. It does the same while autocrossing, drag racing, VTEC Dez MF, Drive-It-Like-You-Stole-It mode or listening to Vanilla Ice (Ice-Ice Baby) at full volume by giving me touch-feedback. Enjoy

Driving review:
The shifting still feels as nice as it did before except now the positive stop gives nice feedback and a precise feel without the worry of overextending. I really like it driving through town. It goes in and goes no further just as advertised. the pictures and instructions are straightforward. I was already comfortable with what I was going to do ahead of time though since I've taken out my shifter and stereo before so I had an advantage. the pictures were definitely helpful and well done.

Fluid turned around my shipment quickly and followed up with an email with the instructions before my part arrived.

awesome part, defenitely need to get my hands on this

I finally got some time to install this! The installation was pretty simple and straight forward. If you already know how to pop the center console cover off and remove the boots then it will only take you about 5 minutes.

Anyways... My first impression when driving was how amazing it felt going through the gears 1-4 and even downshifting. The shifts seem to be a lot more precise than before because I can just downshift with ease and tap the shift plate. I can literally feel that the shifter is tapping the plate by the clicking noise, so I dont have to worry about over shifting at all.

I currently have the AFE short shifter and the inner shift boot installed (which I believe is optional). What I noticed was that the inner shift boot causes the shifts to be less notchier if you have the AFE short shifter (for those who have the AFE shifter knows what I mean because the short shifter tends to be a little notchier and stiffer than oem).

Overall I am impressed with the results and I will try to remove the inner boot to see how that would feel.

Glad the people that have them are enjoying them!

you realize a short shifter has less leverage right??.... which is why the shift is shorter and requires more effort right??

Does this car on the video have Turbo or Supercharger, sounds pretty interesting.

jsjjr 03-31-2009 08:41 AM

Hmm, I'm not so sure about that 'clicking'. I think that will drive me nuts after awhile.

I'd really love to hear the explanation on this.... really :eyetwitch

What if we have the Axial Flow Shortshifter?

Rotr8 03-31-2009 11:38 AM

answered in OP....

jsjjr 03-31-2009 02:11 PM

I wonder if I can add a little 1/8" felt or foam adhesive just around the edges to minimize some of the clicking if it gets too annoying, but I could def see the benefit of having this.

Ok, so I just ordered mine. Tasks to complete this weekend:

Shifter Boot
AxialFlow SS
Ipod Adapter
Synchro Savers

Next week or so: New exhaust

Next month or so: AP

if you don't have this product setup correctly, it WILL hose your tranny. If your adding stuff to silence the sound, MAKE SURE THE SHIFTER STILL HAS THE FULL RANGE OF TRAVEL

BTW - i'd still love a mechanical explanation of how this is saving the syncros...

i was wondering about this product when i saw it on your website, i wanted to purchase it but wondered how well it works and it looks like i'll be getting this item soon :)
