Dude i have no clue lol. i want the Rpf1's brice is sellin but theyre not stx legal. unless i just go for STU. hows the competition in STU? and the reason im trying to stay in STX class is cause i dont have experience. what do you think?

sorry for the threadjack.

TopGear8 06-07-2009 09:37 PM

^Go with the 17x9 rpf1's. They are only 15.9lbs, cant get them in black but they do come in gold! Let me know if you are interested.

And the competition here in STU is pretty good, i'm switching to some stance coilovers and a OEM rear sway because I'm having too much oversteer, but i'll keep that discussion out of this thread :)

hmm this sounds interesting. i might get it after i buy my rims.

but then again i wanna stay in STX and this wont be legal. aswell as my clutch bracket. :(

I think it would be STX legal since the shifter is an allowed modification :dunno:

I am just nor familiar with SCCA rules becasue I run MSCC, but they don't allow mods like that?

I can understand performance mods but this? :dunno:

They won't see it anyway :suspect:

dannobre 06-08-2009 10:17 AM

I've installed 6 of these now...and everyone loves them :)

My car is the only one that doesn't have it installed yet...but it is up on blocks still anyway :(

Can't wait to need it :)

In the Stock Class category you're only permitted to make the modifications stated in the rules book, and modifying the trans/shifter in any way isn't one of them. Otherwise you're required to live with whatever limitations or advantages the manufacturer gave your vehicle.

It's easily detected. All you have to do is squeeze on the shifter boot during the impound process. Probably won't matter on a local level, but people are very competitive on the National level. Rules is rules.

just got it installed and it feels fantastic!

Quick question to all the people who have it.. The rubber thing that goes on the very bottom doesn't fit when you have the synchro saver in and it makes the cabin noise triple.. anyone try reshaping it to put it back in?

SiLVeRE8 06-25-2009 01:49 PM

^ I removed it before too and couldn't stand the noise, so I just made it fit by stretching the hub over the syncro saver. I am sure thats what most did...

Screw the synchro saver in on top of the rubber boot instead of underneath. Problem solved.

SiLVeRE8 06-25-2009 04:28 PM

^ never thought about that... maybe I should give it a try

Not sure that would be a good option unless you used spacers..otherwise the shifter is held in by the rubber...and you can't really tighten them properly

It will fit quite well if you stretch it carefully

gh8st 06-25-2009 08:35 PM

i just cut the rubber stopper to work with the plates and it worked like a charm.

rx8thunder 06-25-2009 09:00 PM

Stretch it with a bit of "elbow grease" and all is good...

much2saxy 06-25-2009 09:53 PM

Would this work on an '09 since tranny is different?

Race Roots 07-02-2009 11:23 AM

Hmm i would have to see an 09 Tranny in person, have yet to do so to see but, I do believe it has the same bolt pattern.

I will get back to you and double check.

I was just thinking the very same thing. The fact that they got this wrong makes me wounder if what else they say is also wrong.

Can anyone provide any 3rd party confirmation on this "over shifting issue"?

In my mind this would be a simple casting issue for a manufacture to resolve if it was a major issue. The fact that Mazda has done a pretty good job at developing this car and saw fit not to put this device on makes me question the value of it.

I'm not trying to piss on this device I just want confirmation of the problem from a natural source. This should be easy to provide if the problem really exists.

Yes it does exist I notice a huge difference between stock and with the aftermarkt shift stop Fluid Provides. Fluid offered me a chance to give it a try and i did, at first to be honest I was skeptical just like you but after driving, night and day difference.

This would definitely be one of the mods up there with the AFE short shifter, it is one of those mods that you do for reassurance, shifting I feel so more confident, it is not instant gratification but just knowing shifting perfection every time it just feels good.

Why do you think everyone that has bought this is confident and enjoys the product once installed....

TeamRX8 07-04-2009 09:41 PM

over-forcing the shifter is a leading cause of failure on this transmission, it starts with bent shift forks and gets worse from there with grinding gears etc., this device places the load on itself rather than the fork/gear assembly once the gear is engaged

Not sure what you mean Dan? I kept the retaining ring in the same place under the rubber boot and just swapped the screws and screwed in the saver on top. can you elaborate on what you mean?
