Haha.. yeah.. never noticed that I guess..

I called them up last week and they said it was going to be completed by Monday and shipped out on Tuesday.. I plan on taking it to have all of the parts installed by this Friday..

Some people at work are trying to get me to go to a NASA event over at Willow Springs Int. Raceway.. Not sure if I am going to go or not because I wanted to get it tuned first.. We'll see.. Maybe i'll just hold off on that until after the event.

I am getting this cat/pipe installed... power pulley's... front/rear sways w/ rear end links...

I sure hope this car doesnt push/understeer as much as it did before. From what I hear, sways make it much more neutral to oversteer which should make this car rip through the corners.

The last time I took it out to the track, at California Speedway, there was tons of understeer. At one point, it felt like the tires were rolling over on themselves.. I guess it didnt help that they were original tires with 18,000 miles on them..

woops....

later..

Hey there.. Yeah I got it today to my astonishment. They told me last week that it would ship today and I was expecting it by Thursday. When I got home from work tonight it was at my front door.

I am going to call up my mechanic and schedule a time to perform the install. Hopefully this Friday...

I'll post my impressions after that

Later all...

I just talked to Greg at SR, and he said, "It is about 10-15 db more. Slightly more noise. It gives it a good sound. I have one on my RX-8" And he has a catback aftermarket exhaust also, but I don't know which one. I think I am going to follow you on this one - pending a good review of the sound and performance - can't wait.

Hey all.. got my car back and with the spark plugs/wires working perfectly, the SR Motorsports Pulley's/High Flow cat installed and it is just awesome... Every gear pulls hard now all the way up to red line.

If you read my last post it was failing at around 7500 rpm and would not accelerate. That is far gone now.

Since this is a thread about the High Flow cat i'll stick to that.. with some mention towards the pulley's because I feel they are that great...

When I first picked up my car the guy said it was definitely more raspy and mean then before. He sure was right.

The moment that I started it up you could hear the difference. The noise level is not that bad from inside the car but I let my buddy drive it up and down the street so I could get a feel for how it sounded, and let me tell you.. it's louder now...

The sound is bareable and it does not bother me in the slightest, but I could see how it could be a bit annoying to other drivers. Regardless, if your windows are rolled up or down, when inside the car, the sound is not all that bad. I was considering the use of dynamat as others have had luck with it, but I really dont feel this is necessary... The cat/borla setup sounds mean!!! My friend drove up and down the street and it just sounded bad ***... You could see/feel/hear the acceleration as he shifted from first to second.. It was just amazing.....

I feel there was definitely performance gain from this product, (now it's time for the pulley's) and in conjunction with the pulley's, this has been a great upgrade. The pulleys have really freed up some power. It's kind of strange, but you can actually feel the difference of the lightened pulley's. The car pulls really hard now, even in third gear. Before, it would not pull that hard. Dont get me wrong, it would make it all the way up to redline, but now you are being tugged, pushed catapulted to redline.. a much different feel..

All in all I would definitely recommend the High Flow cat and pulley system to anyone that is not afraid of more noise along with the performance...

One more side note.. sway bars just rock.... haha.. I bought the front/rear tanabe sway bars and they really plant the car.

There is this freeway interchange that I normally take at 70 mph and tonight, not even trying to push it, I took at 76 and it literally felt like 70... The body roll is now negligible and the car feels much more planted.. Another high recommendation from me on these parts...

Hope this helps all...

Now that the verdict is in, and the sound is not all that bad - I have to follow you in the pursuit of happiness :p

How about normal highway cruising, is the sound tolerable? That is my main question, since I commute 70 miles a day on a 4 lane almost deserted highway.

OK. another quick update. I felt I had to post this since my first reply may not have illistrated my satisfaction for the product enough...

I took it out again tonight because I really wanted to wind it out to see the performance improvements... OK.. I am now saying that you should definitely purchase this product and the pulley system.

In my last post I made a reference to the car pulling.. pushing.. being tugged to 9000 rpm and that does not describe it well enough...

Ok.. so getting onto the freeway I decided to take it hard. I pull up to the light and turn onto the freeway just taking it easy.. Then.. I took it up to 9000 in first and shifted into second. Still taking it easy I made sure it wasnt a fast choppy shift, but a percise shift then flooring it once the clutch was engaged.. This resulted in a tug that I really didnt feel before after a shift. You know how the car can leap forward when your around 6000.. well this happened right after the shift.. it was a very nice feeling.. I again took it up to 9000 and shifted into third.. Yet again.. I felt the tug and that is what really shocked me..

The bogging that sometimes occured after a shift is now gone. What I mean by that is that sometimes after a shift I would hear this noise that sounded like the air couldnt escape fast enough and it would let out this little pop. I dont hear that anymore... Likewise.. I used to have this annoying little performance lag shifting from 3rd to 4th and that is also gone...

I would totally recommend these products...

Hey.. and I am NOT going to say hope this helps because I know it does

It's late and I already want to take it out again... It's like I have a brand new car..

The total cost for parts was 900 and installation was another 60 dollars.. so 960 for everything...

I am working on that clip. My digital cam has that option but I have never used it before.. It's probably pretty easy.. but I would need someone to host it...

later.

I installed SR pullies a while ago, after installation I had thrown a CEL but since the dealership did the install, they cleared the CEL, which they said was not an issue because the ECU is so sensitive it will throw a CEL if you replaced with original pullies because it senses the bolts are removed. I had spoken to Gregg at SR Motorsports and he told me he had the same problem when he first installed but it will go away. His CEL took 2 months to clear, mine cleared in about 2 weeks and I have never had another. I never had a CEL when I had the high flow cat installed (SR also). I agree with Davefzr that these 2 mods have made a very noticeable difference. Check out my other mods, happy with all.
I am waiting for supercharger to come out which I am planning on getting, probally Pettit Racing.

A couple of you said you have the SR Motors Lightened Flywheel. How do you guys like them? How's the shifting? Is it still good for an every day driver or is it rough, more for racing/street?
Also, with the underdrive pulleys. how is everything like A/C, power (anybody running an aftermarket stereo) and what not?
i want to make mine faster but its my everyday driver, don't want to lean to much on the warranty issues and don't want to take away from the comfort of driving. Thanks --Mark

The lightened flywheel was a great addition. Dont even worry about the drivability issues. I think it was really from people who hadnt purchased them yet.. There really are none.

I was a bit concerned like you were about the underdrive pulley's and yet again.. my a/c works just as good as it did before.. There was no noticable difference after the car was upgraded....

Purchase everything You'll love it.

Oh.. and I still have my CEL....

I am happy you like the mods!

A couple questions:

1) Why did you not elect to go with one of the packages (with the cold air intake and midpipe)?

2) How do I find a mechanic that I can trust to work on my eight who will only charge 60 bucks!!!

3) I assume my warranty would be kaput?

Hey..

1) I didnt think that the intake from SR Motorsports was worh the money.. I am waiting to see design by AEM, Racing Beat and... one other that I cant remember right now...

I did get the mid pipe. They offer two.. One has the cat and one does not.. I just got the pipe with the cat...

2) Just take it to your local Mazda dealer if you cant find one. Other people have and their dealers didnt have any issues with putting it on.. In fact, some of them got praise for the quality of the part...

3) warranty issues are always a problem.. if your leary then I wouldnt upgrade.. but as everyone else states.. it's our given right to perform upgrades to our car and unless they can prove it directly effected the blow up.. your warranty is still intact...

Oh and my freaking camera doenst have audio.. that sucks.. i'll get my g/f's camera and take a video with that soon..

later.

OK. I have the videos of my system (high flow cat + borla) if someone can host them for me...

The first video is it ideling with some throttle blips.. and the second is of me getting on the freeway taking it to 9k then shifting to third..

I can probably do an even better one after knowing what I do now about the digital camera... Lets work on someone hosting it first though

thankx!

I really cant say enough about my current setup.... it's just awesome...

Some buddies and I went to WSIR yesterday (Willow Springs Int. Raceway) and it ran strong all day long in the heat. At the end of the front straight I reached 110 before I had to slow down for turn 1...

Very nice....

Still waiting for the hosting though
