Unscrew the three bolts holding it down and pull it out.
Inspect the lower bushing for damage.
Let me know and we will get you whatever you need.

My short shifter order went in Friday! Woot.

Update; it arrived Wednesday, and literally installed in 5 minutes.
I am still getting used to the change, but it is very precise and solid.

Update: Oct 27:
Shifter shifts much faster, very short stroke.
I think the overall shifting effort is, very slightly, higher than the stock shifter.
But:
Shifts are 2/3 the speed of stock; this thing is fast.
Shifts are solid, I have not missed a gear since the short shifter was installed.
I hear/feel more transmission noise now, this may be a bad omen....

i swapped the piece for the stock one whilst i examine the shifter.
The bushing is relatively ok.

would posting pictures of the shifter help in identifying the problem?

Richard,

I inspected my lower bushing the past weekend. I believe that I'm due for a new one. There was considerable wear on the current piece. Thanks for your help.

Why so hard to believe?
I modded other things first.

Is it possible to install the shifter the wrong way? Just curious since there seems to be more reduction in the left to right movement that forward and backwards. I could be that I am just used to the shifter now.

To start with that is not an Axialflow shifter.
Therefore I can't help you.

thanks for the reply.
i was led to think by a local supplier here in Singapore that this was a RP shifter.

but kinda strange ... since only Mazdaspeed and RP makes these things.

I guess it had to happen, someone bought an Axialflow shifter and then sold you his stock one as an AFE.
The one in your pictures is a stock unit BTW.
The DIY thread has pictures of ours and a stock unit side by side.
They look very different.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner.
We are active right now on the development of the 09/10 unit for 6 speeds.
Also at the same time we are building one for the Miata 6 speed.
We had a setback due to moving the shop a few blocks away.
The machines get moved tomorrow and should be runnibg by Friday.
We had the first test unit built and installed in a car but it wasn't right.
We will try again soon.

Sweet deal, can't wait!!

*cough* btw if you need someone to test out your final product for free, i will be more than willing to "burdon" myself with such a "tremendously hard" and "very tedious" task, you know ... for the greater good of the 09-10 community..*cough*

Richard, what are the chances that the 09-10 shifters will be a christmas list item? I assume slim since we haven't got any updates but I figured I'd ask.

We are active with the 09-11 prototyping. However we just moved the shop a few blocks from the old one. It always takes time to get reorganized. The machines are up and running but stuff still needs to find it's place.
The good news is that the 04-08 units are getting built now and if anyone out there ordered one and has not recieved it this is why. All orders have now been shipped either yesterday or today.
We are still running some but there are a few on the shelf now so no waiting.

Thx, RAP

How did you know? I just finished the drawings this afternoon for what should be the final design. Unlike the 04-08 unit these require some molded and stamped parts that need to be outsorced. I can't say what their lead time is so I've no release date for you.
I will let you know when we do the test car install. For that we can hand cut some parts that will in production be made another way.
